He smiled, said, “I know he’s your boss. I’ll be mindful in the future.”

She smiled too, said, “I didn’t hate it.”

“Me acting macho?”

“Very possessive, Josh.”

“Are you jealous?”

“Very.”

“I love you,” she sighed.

“I love you, too. You’re mine.”

What a day it’d been. What an incredible twenty-four hours, really. The awful torment of yesterday seemed so distant now, and it was hard to believe he was the same man who’d snuck downtown and crept around the Royal York looking for proof his wife was cheating on him. It seemed so long ago. Though, truly, the hurt was just below the surface.
