I think most Dakimakura enjoyers I know just hang them on the wall like posters and never give them their intended use...lol
And by "intended use" I just mean using them as regular pillows... ππ¦

To answer your question, they are just really long pillow covers, but because of the material they are made of being a bit delicate compared to an average pillow, when washing them I use a delicates bag and wash on delicate to try and preserve it for as long as I can. Which is more important for some covers that may have only had a one-time limited run many years ago. People hang up their covers like tapestries sometimes because they don't have space on their bed for a pillow usually. These things are gigantic and take up a lot of room.
