Comments

Amber and Jay you should watch "The Wiz" the 1970's Motown Musical Version of The Wizard of Oz

??Lil_Ladee??

So much fun seeing Jordan getting caught up in it! I've seen it so many times I'm at the point I can step back and appreciate it for the production and the wonderful actors who brought the characters to life. It's fascinating that the whole thing was filmed in a huge warehouse, very much a stage production but including the pinnacle of special effects technology of the time. The cyclone/tornado is incredible, and mind boggling that they were able to create that effect with physical materials on a stage set. Young Judy's rendition of Over the Rainbow is a transcendent moment and Margaret Hamilton set the bar for the archetype of the Wicked Witch. When I enjoy great films such as Lord of the Rings, I can't help thinking that The Wizard of Oz was insramental in helping pave the way for other films in the genre. It truly is a treasure.

Regarding Jay's comment that the whole thing was a dream. Actually, according to what I read, in the book the movie is based on, Oz is not a dream, but a real land Dorothy enters. However, the writers of the time when this movie was made thought audiences wouldn't accept that Oz is a real land, so the movie was reconceived with the entire Oz sequence as having been a dream, with the part when the Good Witch sends her back as just being part of said dream. So Jay is not entirely wrong. I much prefer the concept of Oz being a real land, although I love the movie. I'm glad you both loved this. It was a joy seeing Jay get into it, and it was fun seeing how into you already were, Amber. I have a recommendation. I'd love to see you two react to The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe, which is one in a series of movies based on the Chronicles of Narnia. There is an earlier version of it, but I'm referring to the Disney remake from 2005, which I think you guys would love. For me, the other movies aren't as good, but I think you'd really be into the first one. One other thing. I've seen a meme once regarding the yellow brick road which I always get a kick out of. If you look at the images of the road at the start, there is a red brick road that runs along side it, and then seems to lead offscreen. The meme asks where the red brick road goes, and then posits that it leads to Narnia. That'll be a lot more fun if you get to see The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe. :D

Raven Dark

LOL, I was about to come on here and say, "What are you talking about? She's still alive," and then I realized what happened. I confused her with Julie Andrews, and I have no idea why.

I almost didn't (re-watch) this because at 65 years old I have seen it at least 60 times. My 1st time was at 5 years old when my entire kindergarten class was invited to a classmate's home because....they had just purchased a COLOR TV! Not very many people had one in 1963. The Mom & Dad kept us in check and we were mesmerized by the movie and for most of us, seeing color on the television screen. My other reason was thinking "Who in the world has NOT seen this movie? No first-time reactions". Then I thought, well, what the heck. I was glad I did because watching J's face was pretty cool. I mean really though, J NEVER watched this before? From 1956, usually 2 weeks or so before Thanksgiving, (NBC?) aired the movie on TV. We looked forward to that every year as a kid. (But my Mom didn't buy a color TV until 1972)

Alice Coulter

Such a good movie. I loved it as a kid and it inspired my reading of a quite a bit of the series. So much fun.

Connor Fallon

Dorothy.......needs to have the correct billing:)

BRENDA

If you think about it, the Wicked Witch was always throwing FIRE, or exiting in FIRE..that was her power..So it makes sense that the only thing to defeat her was WATER!!!! Yes, that was her weak spot, and Dorthy found it when helping her friend the Scarecrow!

BRENDA

This movie has so many portrayals in other movies I am surprised you didn't want to watch it. Even the Christmas Story had the Wizard of Oz in it.

Lisa Rhodes

Did you know that The Wizard of Oz according to The Library of Congress says this is the most-watched movie ever!

Lana Gorgeous

Thanks for watching!!! It was the actor Buddy Ebsen (jed clampett in the Beverly hillbillies TV show!)who was originally cast to play the tin man but had to drop out cuz he was allergic to the silver paint. Fun bit of trivia....there used to be a radio show called Dr. Demento (70s/80s) and he would play these weird songs and one was called Existential Blues by Tom "T-bone" Stankus, that's a reference to this movie...it's trippy. LOL. I can remember growing up waiting for this movie to come on every spring...it was a big family affair to watch it. 😊

Brenda Perry

So glad you finally watched this! This is truly a classic I watched hundreds of times when I was a kid and it never gets old.

The great Judy Garland 🙌🏼. Her 1954 version of “A Star Is Born” is my favorite (if you’re ever interested in watching it). Last year I suggested her Christmas classic “Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas”, which I hope you’ll react to this time around 🤞🏼. It was written for her movie “Meet Me In St.Louis”. She’s a great singer, and was the first woman to win a Grammy for album of the year. She had some struggles in her life, due to the pressures of child hood stardom (especially in her time). Can’t wait to watch your reaction, hope you enjoyed it.

Patty Estrada

They would love her and Streisand singing together on her tv show

Elizabeth Franco

It was a pleasure for all of us to watch this with you

Elizabeth Franco

Karen Silvera

I especially love the lion

Elizabeth Franco

Judy Garland was one of the finest all round entertainers of her time. Started at age two and performed almost all the way up to her untimely death in June of 1969 at age 47. Please, please react to her on your music channel. Her live recording of her 1961 concert at Carnegie Hall was a number one album and Grammy for Album of the year 1961. She could sing anything but good Garland classics to start with are The Man Who Got Away, Carolina in the Morning, Embraceable You, Old Man River (Live Version) and she originated the Christmas Song “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas”

Geoff Thomas

Are you an IA bot? Lol

As adults it is a lesson by each characters. you must have learned it and it scared the crap out of you with the Wizard Of Oz. Yes they are mean one Killed my Grandpa and the doctor opened up his chest and massaged hi heart. She chewed up his arm. I am 58 years old and we always watched the wizard of Oz we waited till it came on each spring. I still sing most of these songs and I told you the girls will do something from the Wizard Of Oz . It is a classic."I do believe in spooks I do believe in spooks." Haven't you seen gif's or memes of flying monkeys. They scared the crap out of you when you were little.

Lisa Rhodes

A pop group in the 60’s did a remake of Ding Dong the Witch is Dead

Elizabeth Franco

As fantastic as all the other choices were, I have to admit this movie was made exclusively for both of you 😀

JL Green

In 1976 they celebrated the 20th anniversary that it made its tv debut in 1956. I had some of the dolls

Elizabeth Franco

Oh this is awesome! Can't wait to get home to see it. Can't wait to see Jay's reaction. If he doesn't like birds, not sure how he will like those flying monkey things!!

Jayce

The great Barbara Streisand idolized her. She died in 1968

Elizabeth Franco

Her career began when she was a toddler

Elizabeth Franco
