YT EDIT THE HOBBIT: AN UNEXPECTED JOURNEY | FIRST TIME WATCHING | MOVIE REACTION

As mentioned, The Hobbit movies do suffer from being stretched out to three movies. A much shorter book than The Fellowship Of The Ring, yet three movies.

I LOVE everything LOTR. I feel lucky to be my age though. I first read the books the summer I was 19 and had an over-night job babysitting. The two little boys would be asleep and I would read all night till I fell asleep. Then wake up, make breakfast and read again till their Dad came home from his night shift job. In my mind, MiddleEarth was real and I lived there. I've read the entire series a half a dozen times, before the release of the first LOTR movie and I am just amazed that it is exactly how my imagination made it. This is without a doubt my favorite franchise and I cannot complain about any of it. I'm thrilled that the two of you are enjoying it as well, even without the benefit of reading the full books first.

I'm a massive LOTR fan but I cannot stomach these Hobbit movies. The way they stretched out a short children's book into more than six hours of movies was just a pure money grab. These are drivel compared to the other films. It's a hard pass for me on this.

I could take or leave Rogue One, though it seems much more popular. I like Solo way better than I ever expected to. Maybe it's because it was refreshing to see some Star Wars where the scale and stakes weren't the fate of the whole galaxy, but instead a fun little heist film. So I'm all in on Solo.

The orginal plan for this was to have director Guillermo del Toro to make a 2-part adaption of the book. Unfortunately, rights issues with MGM delayed things to where del Toro had to drop out, and Peter Jackson to take over to save the project. This led to a lot of scrambling and last minute changes that made for a rushed production. Amber mentioned the special effects having a budget issue, but that's not so. They had money, just not the time to do their best work and meet the demanding production schedule with all the changes and delays. Another problem is that Warner Bros had different plans. They wanted a Lord of the Rings prequel, and an epic trilogy like before. This is a burden the book never had to bear. Making three thick tomes into a trilogy of epic fantasy of a huge scale makes sense for Lord of the Rings. The Hobbit is one rather modest little childrens fantasy adventure story. The two are very different in tone, and there's not enough there in the book to justify three 3-hour movies. So... it was decided to pad the films with extra backstory from the Lord of the Rings appendices. Hence, we get Radagast, the White Orc, the Necromancer, and other things not in The Hobbit novel. This is probably my favorite of The Hobbit movies, because it most tries to preserve the more light-hearted adventure for younger folks aspect. I'm not a fan of the goblin song so much, but the inclusion of more singing and music seemed to help retain some of that vibe. A vibe that seems out of step with the Necromancer additions that are setting up LOTR. But it's fun being in Middle Earth again, despite a less perfect telling of the tale.

I love watching along with you guys-it's like watching a movie with friends. As a massive LOTR (Lord of the Rings) fan (I collect the licensed collector's swords from the movies), I am SO happy you guys are enjoying this ride and highly recommend the Youtube channel the Nerd of the Rings to address any questions you have about the lore of Middle Earth because it goes DEEP. Many hardcore fans felt like the Hobbit trilogy draws the story out too much, mostly in the second and third movies, but they are still a fun watch. I can't wait to see your reactions to the 2nd and 3rd movies!!

In my opinion they should watch Solo as well. I just don't get these bad critics. I liked the film.

Radagast is my favorite character in this trilogy. I even have a cat named Radagast. My mom never understood the name and she would call him "Madagascar" lol

Enraged Kage

Are you going to watch rogue one after you get through these?

Karl Kraus

Loved the Cartoon version from along time ago . Willow is a funny movie with Val Kilmer .

Lisa Rhodes

Short people with big feet? I see it at every family reunion. ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ
