AUSTIN POWERS (1997) | FIRST TIME WATCHING | MOVIE REACTION

Comments

Would LOVE for them to watch Bond.

J-Rob

Some other James Bond nods not covered in the comments: The strange plastic outfit Dr. Evil wore at the end was identical to the outfit wore by the villain in the first James Bond movie Dr. No. Part of a famous line in Goldfinger was used here: Bond with the villain who is firing a laser at him: Do you expect me to talk? Villain: No, I expect you to die. Blofeld, the Bond villain Dr. Evil mimics, had a fluffy cat and did actually kill people at a table with chairs dropping the occupants into fire pits. And in a general sense the Bond series features villains who can easily kill Bond by just shooting him dead but instead opt to kill him with elaborate schemes. Thank god they do though as this provides epic great actions scenes which have made the Bond franchise legendary, 25 films since 1962. Myers plays 3 characters in the second and 4 in the third! My favorite is actually the third Powers movies which opens with perhaps the greatest comedy twist of all time. You should watch the Bond films, in order, as they are very popular right now along with Star Trek. But don't cheat and just do the Craig Bonds or the Abram's Trek lol. And when reactors do series or franchises please don't keep patrons waiting too long for the next one.

To add to the others who have already covered most things, the transition scenes are a reference to 60s TV shows like Laugh-In which had similar quick scenes. Definitely recommend finishing the trilogy but maybe watch 1 or 2 of the Sean Connery Bond films first to see where most of this originates. Then things like Alotta Fagina being a spoof of the real Bond girl, Pussy Galore, will have an added layer of fun.

Hahaha if you liked this one, youʻll probably like the 2nd movie "Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me" as well. :)

I was laughing at how much Jay was laughing & Amber's reactions, and I cackled when Jay said "ya boys learning new moves", watch out now, them airplane poses followed by "whoops I fell over" might make bring in baby #4 now lol if it do the names gotta be Austin!🤣 But yea like everyone's saying this is really a love letter/satire of 60s British spy films, & the mod era & a pretty good premise of what would that kind of character look like in the "modern" world. This is the kind of reaction I loce because it's watching people fall in love with a movie I've known since it was new-ish (my cousin had the vhs when it came out & me & my siblings were obsessed, part 2 &3 I saw in theaters). Yall will be quoting these, but man I gotta say as glad as I am yall saw it & started it, there really was nothing like seeing these movies when they were new and the whole school year everyone was doing the impressions, I mean THIS.TOOK.OVER! And in a way nobody expected or was ready for. This & part 2 are my favorites, this is the better story as film making goes (a bit more focused & centered), part 2 is where it gets really goofy, but it still works. Part 3 is funny & enjoyable too but alot more cheap laughs & TONS of flavor of the month sign of the times pop culture gimmicks, but seriously it's a damn good comedic trilogy, and I'm gonna enjoy watching you 2 discover that. *I have a suspicion based on Jay's taste in humor that by the time we get to the end of 3, Jay's gonna like either 2 or 3 the best. Which reminds me.....BACK TO THE FUTURE 3 YOU GUYS!!! COME ON NOW! ITS THE LAST ONE 😆 I have a request that 1 day of the 2 days a week gotta be dedicated to getting through a franchise lol. But yall do what you feel & I love that!

That was Carrie Fisher, not Stevie Nicks.

Yes to fully appreciate the satire involved in the Austin Powers movies you’d need some familiarity with the James Bond films especially the early ones of the 60s. Also draws from a popular British Television series of the 60s called The Avengers which in itself was a bit satirical of the Bond “mystique”.

It's a satirical spy comedy....drawing mostly from the James Bond series. Amber, I think you'll get the satire a lot more once you watch those movies. Mike Myer's also plays the character of Dr. Evil, btw. Though I think you'll mainly recognize Mike Myer's from voicing Shrek. My favorite Mike Myers movie is Wayne's World, which is based on a Saturday Night Live sketch (you should check it out). Jordan you're right, that was Carrie Fisher and Will Ferrell.

Patty Estrada

Carrie Fisher was the group therapist.Tom Arnold as the cowboy in the bathroom. All James Bond movies have sex in them. If you Were a Bond Girl you were hot. Mike Myers played Shrek,( voice ) , Wayne's World. Austin Powers, and Dr. Evil. Groovy Baby ,Shag and all the slangs in this movie was big in the 60's.This whole series is pretty funny. I could tell Jay you really enjoyed them.
