AUSTIN POWERS (1997) | FIRST TIME WATCHING | MOVIE REACTION

Comments

Yeah, baby!

Jeff Mills

Wayne's world! I don't think they've watched that one. They'd love the music. Also Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure. It belongs in that crazy fun high school stuff.

😂 Goldmember is my absolute favorite of the trilogy. But J PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE watch Dumb & Dumber! It’s so great and I can 1000000% guarantee you WILL laugh until you hurt. It’s so worth watching and I can’t wait to see your reaction. My dad and I watch faithfully twice a week!!! -Jen

"Austin Powers The Spy Who Shagged Me" is a very funny one. Dr. Evil has a "mini-me" and so many great lines.

Toby Smith

The opening sequence with him being chased by girls and sitting with a magazine, is a shout out to the opening of The Beatles "Hard Days Night" Those short dances/freeze are a shout out for a popular 60's show, "Laugh In" They had those.

I just caught something you 2 said around 33:35 in the YouTube release. You've never listened to Liberace!! So now I need to recommend him. He's a pianist and a great one at that. He also makes Austin Powers look like a blue jean and T-shirt kinda guy. He was a Vegas headliner for years.

Austin Powers is good for silly laughs. The second movie is good, the one that has Fat Bastard. The third one is kinda gross, my least favorite of the three. That was Carrie Fisher who played Princess Leia. For more Mike Myers, Wayne’s World would be great. I used to watch SNL when this was a skit, and the movie is funny and silly. Some other suggestions for silliness: Dragnet, which stars Tom Hanks and Dan Ankroyd. Buddy cop movie with lots of fun and silliness. Galaxy Quest, sci-if comedy Three Amigos - Steve Martin, Chevy Chase, Martin Short

Those pauses are homage to the comedy variety show Laugh In

Elizabeth Franco

He was Shrek also Amber. Austin Powers was also to honor his dad who was born in England I believe. He’s also playing Dr.Evil

Elizabeth Franco

Oh Behave! These Austin Powers films are a spoof off The Bond films of course.Mike Myers is a comic genius. Yeah also need to see him and fellow SNL alumni Dave Carvey in Wayne’s World, and him as the Cat in the Hat.Also Elizabeth Hurley with Brenden Fraiser in Bedazzled so funny!

Elizabeth Franco

Mike Myers did another movie 5 years before Austin Powers called So I Married An Axe Murderer. It contains the funniest scene ever filmed.

The best theatrical kids movies tend to put in a few gags for the adults, which is the least they can do since they're the ones that brought the true target demographic to the multiplex. And also helps keep it fresh when you revisit your childhood favorites and finally get what you were too young to then.

You 2 have officially made my day. I was diagnosed with COVID and when I pulled up my YouTube feed, I saw your reaction video pop up. It made me happy that you enjoyed it, as I think it’s one of the best comedies of all time. It’s up there with Anchorman, Airplane/Naked Gun and Dumb and Dumber. I look forward to more movie reactions from you.

I do like Mike Myers character Fat B . "GET IN MY BELLY" When he wanted to eat mini me. Shrek is kinda of a grown up cartoon if you really watch them. Puss in Boots "catnip is not mine."

Several Mike Myers movies , He is the voice of Shrek , He plays Both Dr. Evil, and Austin . He plays other characters in the other Austin Powers movies. "I Married an Ax Murder" is funny. Wayne's World there is two of them.

If you're not a familiar with James Bond, then there's a number of jokes going over your head. Dr. Evil's look is much inspired by SPECTRE villain, Blofeld. Random Task is an obvious parody of Oddjob from Goldfinger (who used an inexplicably lethal hat to kill). And although there were plenty of Bond girls with improbably suggestive names, I'm pretty sure Alotta Fagina is taking square aim at Pussy Galore. Not that James Bond is the only inspiration here. Apparently Myers intended the character to be a tribute to his dad who turned him on to much of 60's culture from his own youth. The flamboyant look of Austin is much inspired by the titular character in the television series Jason King. I've often suspected there may be a bit of Dean Martin's spy character Matt Helm thrown in there as well, but never heard that mentioned as a specific infuence. Just my hunch. I think the comedic returns diminish as the series goes on, but they're hardly awful movies. Much like Ace Ventura, Austin Powers seems a character of such specific purpose that he doesn't easily fit into continuing stories. Both character's sequels managed to give me some laughs, but not as many or impactful as the film before. If you're interested in more Mike Myers, his best was probably Wayne's World. For me it's tied with The Blues Brothers as the best film adaptation of a Saturday Night Live sketch. And there's Shrek, but I'm guessing the whole Squad has seen those.

Robert Greffey

After watching this, they should definitely watch Wayne's World.

Kristin D

It's a satirical spy comedy....drawing mostly from the James Bond series. Amber, I think you'll get the satire a lot more once you watch those movies. Mike Myer's also plays the character of Dr. Evil, btw. Though I think you'll mainly recognize Mike Myer's from voicing Shrek. My favorite Mike Myers movie is Wayne's World, which is based on a Saturday Night Live sketch (you should check it out). Jordan you're right, that was Carrie Fisher and Will Ferrell.

Patty Estrada

Austin Powers 2 The spy who shagged me is even better! I think you both are going to enjoy it

Matt Brodzinski

It was Carrie Fisher Princess Leia.

Lisa Rhodes

He also played Shrek's voice and Waynes World.

Lisa Rhodes

It is a spoof off of all the James Bond Movies.

Lisa Rhodes

Groovy Baby.
