The only thing I can say about silent movies is don’t knock ‘‘em until you’ve tried ‘em

Sewing machines have been around since the late 1820’s starting in France. The Singer Sewing Machine was invented patented by Issac Singer in 1850

I think Martin Short has better success on the small screen than in the theater, making his bones on Canada's Second City TV show. I'd probably recommend Inner Space (1987) as a nice big screen showcase for him, though.
The essential Steve Martin movie I'm waiting for you to get to is Dirty Rotten Scoundrels (1988).

My wife has an old White sewing machine from 1905. Unlike your mother, she doesn't sew, but it still makes for a wonderfully decorative antique.

Amber, the sewing machine was invented in the late 1700's. I'm not sure when they became widely used, but I assume it was sometime in the mid 1800s. The old sewing machines that I'm familiar with were mounted onto tables and were connected to a foot peddle. The users feet would push the peddle back and forth which would move the needle up and down. My mother was a seamstress. She quit her job to stay home with me and my sister, so she worked as a seamstress out of the house. She could make anything!

Yes! 1963’s “it’s a mad mad mad mad world” is a true classic, well worth a watch!

You’d probably like City Slickers. Funny, non traditional take on a western like this one. I second the recommendation for Dirty Rotten Scoundrels and The Money Pit too.

What a treat! This was a favorite movie of mine and my dad's when I was growing up. I've seen this movie so many times, and it's still just as funny. I love when they were camping and singing with the animals, and then Ned just steps up to the plate and brings it.
Galaxy Quest is actually similar to Three Amigos in that the main cast are out of work actors, and they are recruited by aliens to help defend their planet against the villain. The actors obviously don't realize this is a real life scenario. I'm not sure you've watched anything with Sigourney Weaver, but she's just awesome. Actually you did, she was in Ghostbusters. She stars in this along side Tim Allen, and Alan Rickman (Snape from HP). It's lots of fun and full of laughs.
Steve Martin has so many wonderful movies, but I really prefer his silly comedies. My favorite, along side Three Amigos, is Dirty Rotten Scoundrels. Another good one of his is Man with Two Brains. That also stars Kathleen Turner who is the lead female in Romancing the Stone. Another fav is All of Me with Lily Tomlin, though I think that movie is impossible to find now.

If you want belly laughs and laughing tears check out “Rat Race” from 2001 with an all star cast! One of those that probably wouldn’t win a poll, but could be the funniest you’ve seen yet!

Oh, water damage. You so need to watch the movie "The Money Pit" with Tom Hanks. It is about a young couple and their struggles with their house.
