Music Biopics

Poll 3 of 3

Comments

Agreed

I am Jussina

I HIGHLY recommend Rocket Man! The story of Elton John!

Peyton Royals

Another good story to go with some music.. The Big Chill .. a good story about a group of friends that come back together because of a friends suicide.

Ed Littner

Yes, PLEASE

Toby Smith

They aren't biopics, but I can't believe you haven't done a Beatles movie yet!!! (A Hard Day's Night first, then Help!) They're very fun!

Tom Ekstrand

I think this theme will remain very popular. So many great possibilities.

BRT

Have not seen that one in a long g time! Would be great to watch it with the squad!

BRT

Agreed.!

BRT

Yes would love this!!!

BRT

Oh GOSH! Can't we just do all of these???

BRT

How about “ Great balls of Fire” or the Buddy Holly story”

Ed Littner

A couple of oldies Gypsy, the story of burlesque dancer Gypsy Rose Lee and Beyond The Sea, the story about Mack the Knife singer Bobby Darin and his relationship with his wife, actress Sandra Dee.

LL Kay

No you're not. 😆

Michael J Paulus

The Doors

s8150f

😂😂 That movie is Gold lmao "wtf was he talking about?" lol

dieselbeast

I'm a little disappointed that Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story didn't make the cut. 🤣

Robert Greffey

This is one of the few recent music bio pics I've actually liked, and probably because they took the extra step and made it a genuine musical instead of a docu-drama featuring the music. So agree it has a place here and on the straight musical poll.

Robert Greffey

You guys have got to do Eddie and the Cruisers. You could call it a fictional music biopic. But you've already done "On the Dark Side" on you music channel.

Jason Vulgamore

Hard Day's Night is missing on this list

JarHead0351

The weakest music biopic on the list is winning the polls, smh. Ray and Coal Miners Daughter should be #1 and #2.

Sylvan Green

Love & Mercy (based on the life of Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys) is a very good movie, too.

Debra

ray charles will unfortunately drown in the support for Queen from what I read BR has not aged well since its heyday 4 years ago the editing was choppy and the actor who had played Freddie Mercury has lost support

Karl Kraus

All of them are good. Also "Lady Sings The Blues" starring Diana Ross. "Rocketman" (Elton John bio)

Toby Smith

I think Ray should definitely be winning this

Michael Lynch

What about the doors?

Tom Dean

Darn, forgot that one---EXCELLENT movie; and, since Amber is such a huge Janis Joplin fan, they've definitely got to react to it!!

Cat Whisperer

I was totally gonna say that---Jennifer Lopez did such a good job!!!

Cat Whisperer

Oh, my; these polls are very difficult!! For me, it was between "Ray" and "Walk the Line"---I picked WtL!!

Cat Whisperer

La Bamba is a great movie.

Kristin D

Walk the Line is the best movie on this list. Joaquin Phoenix is fantastic.

Kristin D

I also voted for Bohemian based on your love of Queen, though it's not the best movie on here. La Bamba has always been one of my favorites as well.

Tracy Geier

I think Ray might be the best biopic up there, but I voted for Bohemian Rhapsody. As a big Queen fan, I feel it's important to remind you both to take the movie with a big grain of salt. While some of it is true, some things are made up for the purpose of the story in movie format, and I was surprised how some of the events were told out of order. Honestly, as much as I liked the movie, there are stories from the band that were told differently or even left out that would have made the movie better if they told it how it really happened, IMO. Hope you enjoy it, but take it as more of a fairy tale than how things actually happened.

Jon

I agree

Patty Estrada

I’m surprised What’s Love Got To Do With It wasn’t on here. Angela Bassett did an amazing job as Tina Turner!

Patty Estrada

Yes, I agree!!

Patty Estrada

Oh & I'll Do a breakdown like someone else did in the comments of who's story is through what What's Love Got To Do With It- Tina Turner (the role that made Angela a leading actress) Lady Sings The Blues - Billie Holiday (It's not very accurate, Diana don't look like Billie or sound like Billie, and they don't take the story as dark as it is, but all that said it's a really good movie & Diana acts her behind off & deserved that Oscar nomination she got for it) Selena - Selena (the movie that made Jennifer Lopez a leading actress & superstar, very good & simple & sweet) Introducing Dorthy Dandridge- Dorthy Dandridge (Halle Berry's best performance to me to date, and its about Dorthy who was 1 of the very 1st Black Hollywood superstars as a actress & singer, Dorthy was the 1st black woman to be nominated for Best Actress in a leading role, & Halle became the 1st black actress to win in that category but not for this movie) Why Do Fools Fall In Love - Frankie Lymon & the Teenagers, this more so is about the industry in the 50s & 60s & it's REALLY good & funny All star black cast.

J.Fro90

Hard choice, but I went with Bohemian Rhapsody.

Troy

Rocketman, about Elton John is pretty good. It's sort of a musical (set to his songs), so it would be a good option for the other poll as well.

BRYAN RAINS

Great selection. I honestly had trouble picking since all of these are fantastic. In the end, for me the edge will always go to Freddie Mercury. In future, I suggest: Sweet Dreams (Patsy Cline) La Bamba (Ritchie Valens) The Doors (Val Kilmer as Jim Morrison is beyond perfect)

Sharon Lathan

This is a good poll! All should be watched, but I’m going to pick ‘Walk The Line’ for now because Joaquin Phoenix is one of my favorite actors. Reese Witherspoon as June Carter is good too.

Patty Estrada

All of these are good,I would go with Coal Miner’s Daughter and Walk the Line first. I know it’s not on the list but you should also watch What’s Love Got to do With It

Elizabeth Franco

Not arguing for a second that The Rose is a fantastic movie. However, it isn't a biopic of Janis Joplin, but rather very loosely inspired by her life. As such, it doesn't really fit into this category. :-)

Sharon Lathan

Should definitely add Selena to the next biopic list, it’s a good one.

Connor Fallon

Sounds good!

J.Fro90

Oh gosh I had forgot there was a biopic about her! We will have to do this poll again in the future

Jordan Robinson

Haven’t heard of those! We will keep those in mind for the next one now.

Jordan Robinson

That’s a hard choice, I was debating between Bohemian Rhapsody and Walk The Line. Both are tremendously good biopic’s of two great artists.

Jennifer Sanchez

Coal Miner’s Daughter ftw! Sissy Spacek followed Loretta Lynn on tour for a whole year so she could study her to prepare for the role. It paid off and earned her an Oscar! Would also have loved to see Sweet Dreams, the story of Patsy Cline, on here too

Casey Salley

I'm voting Ray but I wish Whats Love Got To Do With It, Selena, Lady Sings The Blues, Introducing Dorothy Dandridge & Why Do Fools fall in love were options. Angela Bassett was nominated for best Actress for playing Tina Turner in Whats Love & Diana Ross got nominated for best actress for playing Billie Holiday Lady Sings The Blues.

J.Fro90

Another good one would be The Rose.. the story of Janis Joplin

Ed Littner
