January Suggestions

Wanted to get a couple more polls up this month. What do you guys want to suggest?

Special request for a psychological thriller film.

Comments

Green Book is about a black pianist needing to tour the deep south in the early 60's and hires an Italian - American bouncer and they face racism together and have formed a lasting bond. The Green Book is a book blacks used so they knew where to stay and eat in America.

Karen Buffington

Greg Slagle

Seven is about the best Psychological Thriller as you'll ever see... Excellent Choice...

Greg Slagle

The STING! OMG! That is about as good a movie as you'll EVER see... Might as well throw in Butch and Sundance...

Greg Slagle

Unforgiven. Clint Eastwood, Morgan Freeman, Gene Hackman. Won Oscar for best picture and best director( Clint Eastwood) best supporting actor( Gene Hackman)

How about a Coming Of Age Poll. A few suggestions: *The Perks Of Being A Wallflower *Now And Then *Some Kind Of Wonderful *My Girl *Clueless *The Sandlot

Katie Jackson

Sleeping With The Enemy is a great thriller that I haven't seen anyone mention.

Katie Jackson

Not sure I would compare it to that since they are not investigating a mystery. But whatever floats your boat.

Tara

For a type of POLL......How about a soundtrack that you would "know right away what movie it is from"......not just one song, but a soundtrack.....(JAWS, which you have already seen would be an example....the music from that is iconic!) So, if people thought about the theme music/soundtrack to the movie....and pick from there or get suggestions for that type of poll. Most memorable soundtrack/theme music for a movie? I PICK ....THE STING! I hope you have that movie on your list....Robert Redford/Paul Newman....great film...AND SOUNDTRACK/Theme music!

BRENDA

Shutter Island for psych thriller!

BRENDA

The village? Is that the M. Knight Ramalamadingdong movie that was basically an episode of Scooby Doo just without the Scooby gang?

I suggest some Classic pre 1970 Hollywood big pictures with the likes of Cary Grant, Steve McQueen, Paul Newman etc. Perhaps a John Wayne western like "The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance". Seven (often seen as Se7en) is definitely one of my favorites if you're looking for a great psychological thriller. It stars Brad Pitt and Morgan Freeman as detectives hunting a serial killer. Very creepy and has some pretty disturbing moments, but features killer (Ha!) performances from the whole cast. Also, Trent Reznor of the band Nine Inch Nails composed the fantastic soundtrack (another great band for your music reactions too)!

Other great movies to check out would be True Grit with John Wayne, Conagher with Sam Elliott (he played Virgil Earp in Tombstone) and his real life wife Katherine Ross. Would you ever consider doing a survey about Disney movies? With kids I’m sure you’ve seen plenty but there was a recent reaction with a comment about Old Yeller. Perhaps some of the older classics?

Laura Niewohner

I think that, fatal attraction, is one of the most intense and satisfying, psychological, thrillers ever! It changed the face of relationships in dating/marriage, forever! Don’t cheat on your spouse… You never know what you’re gonna get!

Chris Thomas

Kimberly Jenkins

If you want scary "Cape Fear"

Jorge De La Torriente

Well, I'm not sure what you're asking.... If you're asking for a suggestion for psychological thriller, I suggest: "The Omen", and "The Sixth Sense". If you're asking what polls y'all should put up, I suggest: Period Pieces ("Pride and Prejudice"), and RomComs ("Arthur", "Love, Actually", and "The Best Lil' Whorehouse in Texas" [I'm dying for you to see Dolly Parton, act; she's good!!]). Also, Adventure: "Lara Croft" 1 and 2 (Amber would especially like these, because Lara is a badass).

Michael and Phyllis Selby

Great psychological thrillers. Definitely all of these

Veronica Kershaw

For thriller I say Alfred Hitchcock’s Vertigo or Rear Window Zodiac Mullholland Drive Taxi Driver Manchurian Candidate Blue Velvet For Super Bowl and for Jay I recommend North Dallas Forty. A great football film written by a former Dallas Cowboy. Not one of these inspiring feel good Rudy things but a true look at the ugly side of Professional Football. Jay will love it Amber it will hold your interest. In return Jay you then owe Amber a chick flick. Go with Beaches. Stars Better Midler and Barbara Hershey and it’s impossible to have a dry eye in the room by the time it’s over. Plus Midler sings the Oscar winning song Wind Beneath My Wings. Amber will love it and Jay, we have to take one for the team on occasion. I will say for a chick flick this is one I’ve actually watched more than once it’s a good film. Way better than having to sit through Bridges of Madison County or the Notebook trust me on this one.

Geoff Thomas

Movies that are not franchises / series / trilogies or excessively gory killing scenes -- and except for a couple, they weren't mega hits but I think you'll like them. An Officer and a Gentleman Enemy Mine (action but heart warming, too) Mr. Holland's Opus Bringing Down the House (comedy with some serious bits) Just Wright (Queen Latifah and Common) The Sting (sort of psychological) Close Encounters of the Third Kind A Family Thing (James Earl Jones and Robert Duvall)

Shirley Durr

I’d like to see a poll for a feel good, heart warming, underdog Race Horse in which I would vote for…. Seabiscuit, 2003…..:)

John

Psychological Thrillers: Vertigo, Rear Window, North by Northwest Sports: Miracle, Friday Night Lights, Bull Durham Music related, but not a musical That Thing You Do with Tom Hanks Musical Les Miserables with Hugh Jackman, Singin’ in the Rain, and in a very irreverent, politically incorrect, but hysterically funny film, South Park Bigger, Longer and Uncut.

Greg McDaniel

'Memento' is probably my favorite psychological thriller. 'The Game' is a pretty good one too.

Debra

I also forgot to recommend a psychological thriller: Cape Fear (1962)

Casey Salley

Annika De Bruyn

The movie I would love you to watch will never make your lists. It is Breaking Away (1979). Indie movie about town kids growing up in Indiana in the shadow of a University. It has a fantastic cast of young actors. A love story. It is about coming of age. It is about fathers and sons. It is about friendship. It is about triumph over adversity. it is a sports movie with one of the best filmed endings you will ever see. I promise it will be one of your favorite films. Not one that most of your audience has seen because it is no blockbuster. Just a hidden gem that tells a timeless story.

William Benton

Pacific Heights , mascarade , Black Widow, for Psychological Thrillers. Out to Sea , 9 to 5 , Every Which Way But Loose , for Comedies

I've got to second Seven but it's...heavy. Get Out, Fight Club, Inception, and The Bone Collector are all really great films and great examples of that genre!

“Se7en” “Zodiac” or “Gone Girl” by David Fincher (he’s known for this genre) “Parasite” by Bong Joon-ho “Donnie Darko” by Richard Kelley “Memento” by Christopher Nolan “Vertigo” by Alfred Hitchcock “Get Out” by Jordan Peele These are all psychological thrillers.

Patty Estrada

I have to suggest Eddie and the Cruisers. You guy have been putting the one off for a while.

Jason Vulgamore

I suggest The Devil’s Advocate starring Keanu Reeves and Jack Nicholson. Also the 2019 Oscar’s winning film Parasite is a good one. And one more, 2006’s The Prestige starring Hugh Jackman & Christian Bale. You can’t go wrong with any of those. All 3 suggestions are psychological thrillers by the way. Thanks for considering!

Nicole

Thrillers..perhaps not psychological but "Nighthawks" with Billy dee Williams and Sylvester Stallone
