YT EDIT PLANET OF THE APES (1968) | FIRST TIME WATCHING | MOVIE REACTION

I would concur. Skip straight to Rise of the planet of the Apes. The prequels are amazing.

LOTR4ever

Chiller dillers.. I watched those every Sunday

Scorpius

There's a scammer on Facebook pretending to be you redirecting people to a different YouTube page etc. You might want to address this

React to Men of Honor

Hey Jay, I got to spend a day with Jane Goodall many years ago. I was a volunteer at the Phoenix Zoo and she visited for a special fund raising event. She showed a movie and spoke, even did a question and answer for almost two hours. Then we enjoyed a beautiful banquet meal together. She is such an interesting lady, still alive today at 90 doing work to promote conservation and her work with primates. Debra's recomendation above of Gorillas in the Mist is an excellent movie.

I loved the Fantastic Voyage!

I know Homer Simpson did the whole "Damn you all to hell!" bit in reference once, but for the life of me, can't remember in which episode or in what context.

Even though I voted for West Side Story, I like Sound of Music enough that I've been looking forward to seeing it on the channel. Glad it's finally coming around. Lots of music, so I hope your edit doesn't rouse the copyright bots.

This movie was also referenced at the end of Spaceballs if you remember…

Cool! Another sci-fi rabbit hole you can start to go down is the Alien franchise. That’s more sci-fi/horror.

The 4:30 movie had a Planet of the Apes week

Mark Twain

We’re gonna watch it and hopefully have it up next week! It’s highly anticipated!

Jordan Robinson

Didn't one of you tell me on X that the sound of music is on the list for the week? I'm sorry I keep being a pest and bringing it up but I was ready for it today I don't know if you meant you were WATCHING it or POSTING it but... 😖😞 This is so frustrating

Karl Kraus

The new version is good too they pay a lot of tribute to this movie!

Oh, I love this movie! Can't wait to watch it later. To me, out of the originals, only the next one is as good as this. The other original movies kind of fall off in story quality. BUT, I do suggest that you watch the three remakes. Oh, god, the remakes. I can't say enough about those. They are gorgeous. Those movies are going to blow your minds. Especially the second and third. I'd suggest you either you watch the next one of the originals too, or just stop here and go directly to the remakes, starting with Rise of the Planet of the Apes from 2009. That one is a little weaker out of the three, but it's still really great. The sequel and the third are incredible. There is also a forth one coming soon, which I hope is just as good. Excited to come back to this one later tonight, after I adult. LOL

Jay, with your interest in apes, you should watch 'Gorillas in the Mist.' It's based on the life of Dian Fossey, a primatologist who worked to protect the endangered mountain gorillas.

Debra

You guys taking me back to my childhood with this one! They used to come on every Sunday that and Godzilla movies.

Jayson Phillips

This was a great series of movies with a successful TV series also. They have rebooted the franchise. The new ones are remarkably good putting a modern day twist on the origin. With todays Special Effect, and Makeup it has made a fantastic improvement. I now you will enjoy both. The original set of movies are 5 in total

Mark Twain

Rod Serling was a writer and producer most famous for creating the TV show The Twilight Zone, so that may explain why the name is familiar to you. The final scene at the Statue of Liberty has become iconic, and is often parodied and referenced in other works. It proved a film popular enough that starting in 1970, Fox started pumping out one a movie a year until '74. Charlton Heston was a Hollywood powerhouse actor in his day that, because of my mom's massive crush on him, I got to see a lot of growing up. Listing his greats would take too long, but some highlights and classics include The Ten Commandments, Ben Hur, Soylent Green, and of course, Wayne's World 2. 🤣 Director Franklin J. Schaffner does not have a huge filmography, and although this may be his most watched film, he actually got the most professional recognition with an Oscar for directing the movie Patton. Since Jay commented on the music, it was composed and conducted by the legendary Jerry Goldsmith. This is hardly my favorite, and a little atypical of his usual work. But then, as this proves, the guy was very versatile. We've heard his work on the channel for Poltergeist and First Blood, but since I'm an uber-nerd, I think his work for Star Trek: The Motion Picture is my personal favorite. Regardless of what you think of the movie (it's not very popular, even among Trekkies), that score is amazeballs. Any time I watch it, I have that ominous V'ger theme in my head for days. The Oscars did not have a category for best makeup effects at the time, but John Chambers got an honorary one for his work on this. Not to disrespect his fine work, but it came out the same year as 2001: A Space Odyssey which (IMHO) had far superior ape makeup. Maybe they were too good, and the Academy members thought Kubrick used real apes?😉

Robert Greffey

If you play total eclipse of the heart during the eclipse in some places it will last the whole song but i forgot where. Anyways OK and TX will be rain and clouds so none for us lol

Jayson Phillips

This will be a great watch with you when full length is up!! A sci-fi classic that absolutely holds up with an ending no one expects. Although the make-up is outdated by today's film standards, it still looks brilliant. Screenplay written by Michael Wilson and Rod Serling, can't go wrong there. If you haven't watched any of the Twilight Zone episodes, I highly recommend.

Kim

I saw this as a kid in my neighborhood theater as part of a double feature (yep I'm pretty old). I hope you get to react to the other movie I saw as the second feature called Fantastic Voyage 😀.
