No reference- one year improvement! ( a little advice for starting/fellow artists! ) ♥️

Guys; I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again…USE REFRENCES! 😩♥️ I use real life photos or video stills from ( adult films 😎) when I draw. Not every time, but I try to as much as possible! Last year, I wanted to draw a regular standing pose without a refrence and do it over in a year to see how much I’ve improved…to see if references helped! And yes. They VERY much do help!

A lot of new artist, and artists in general I’ve seen, consider using references cheating. It’s not. The greatest artists in the world use references, and last year I had JUST started drawing people. Before I was drawing horses believe it or not LOL! So using refrences was critical for my growth. Your best options are stock images because they are free to use, or stills from videos in my experience. There are a lot of great recourses out there for artists!

I skeleton over my references, but before that I like to exaggerate the poses and proportions with the liquify tool in procreate. Skeletoning creates muscle memory, which is why you see improvement here. And as someone who does not have a photogenic memory ( like if you asked me to draw a specific Pokémon from memory I would mess up horribly HAHA ) references have been so crucial.

I rely on them a bit less these days, but I really should use them as much as possible for the next year or so since I’m still new at this. I’ll do this again next year to see how much I’ve improved!
