I'm an Aston Villa fan, the EFL allowed my club to be bought by a Chinese businessman who actually didn't have any money (certainly not the amount he was claiming). The alleged 'fit for purpose' test that the EFL was doing for owners was a load of bs, it nearly led to our club liquidating had two other owners not come in to buy us literally within months of us going out of business. The previous Chinese owner has since spent time in prison in China. There was also an investigation released by Al Jazeera that claimed he was one of the foreign owners using English football clubs to money launder. It's grim. You have to understand football clubs are not like your American 'franchises', what the documentary has been trying to get you to grasp is that these community clubs are often the heartbeat of the village, town or city that they represent. To see them handled by some of these owners with such disdain and also for the organisation (EFL), which is meant to be protecting them from dangerous ownership failing in their checks, is what has led to many of these protests. One of which was highlighted in season 1 where Wrexham fans fought hard to ensure they still had a club today.

Respectfully I disagree with some of your points. I don't agree that the doc try to deflect "any" of the blame. Shaun himself was very upfront that as the head of the EFL, a lot of the blame did rest on his shoulders. I struggle to see how that is deflecting blame. Would you have liked it if he and the doc said "Shaun was a horrible CEO who ruined the league he is at fault for everything" ? Furthermore, while he did own up to his, he was also correct that it wasn't all on him. He had 72 clubs that he had to look over, the head of the EFL isn't directly involved with everyone and every club, they have to look after the entire structure. The premier league has a luxury where they only look after a small number of teams and thus can scrutinize everything more, the EFL doesn't have that luxury. Were there some major mistakes under his tenure? Of course, which he again fully owns up to. But he was also fully correct in saying that it was not ALL him, but that he became a lightning rod for any and all criticism, whether it was fair or not. You are correct the EFL are meant to be the safeguard. THE EFL, not just one person. One person, even if he is the head, can only do so much.

One of Shaun Harvey's responsibilities whilst CEO of the EFL was to ensure that anyone buying an EFL club was fit for purpose. What happened at Bury FC was nothing short of a disgrace, as is what is happening at Reading and a few others. Obviously there are many different things he contributed as CEO of the EFL, but one of the most important things is ensuring that the wrong people don't end up owning these community clubs and when the EFL gets it wrong, it's easy to see why fans of those clubs blame him or at least hold a lot of resentment towards him. This documentary will, of course, try to deflect any of that blame, but his track record at best is mixed. Just to put it in perspective, Bury FC got practically destroyed by its ownership, were kicked out of the EFL and went into administration. The club had to be restarted by fans in the form of a phoenix club (playing in the 10th tier), as they came together to buy back the previous club's rights (name, history and stadium) from the government administrators. It isn't just a 'game', the whole club was destroyed. Look back at one of the earlier seasons where that nearly happened to Wrexham AFC. The EFL are meant to be a safeguard for its clubs and for them to greenlight some of these owners is awful. Not condoning any threats against Shaun's family though, of course! I just think the criticism shouldn't be dismissed.

Yeah, to hell with feelings! xD
