When tasked with making a character climb something, my default solution appears to be "throw them at a vertical surface at full force while scrambling with hands and feet, and they'll gain upwards momentum".
To be fair though, I've seen brushtail possums actually climb treetrunks like this, whereas I've never seen a king do it.
