Mystery Time with M: Episode 4- The Murder of Selena Quintanilla

In 1995, the biggest female artist of my childhood was gunned down in a hotel room by somebody she considered a friend. The murder of Selena Quintanilla rocked Latino communities and her murder was very much the OJ trial of Latino communities. Even in death, Selena remains a legend. A few weeks ago, I was watching the movie (which made Jennifer Lopez into a star) and couldn't help but notice all the things the movie got wrong and I wanted to talk about them. Down below I'm dropping some of the songs I talked about in this for you all to check out.

Had you heard of Selena before?

This is the song that made her famous.
And this is my favorite Selena song

Just listened to this and LMFAO'd hearing about your turtle being dumped into Whittier Narrows. I had to ditch my GF's (now wife) slider turtle there in the mid/late 90's. Our turtles could have been friends.

I didn't live in Texas when she died (I do now) but as a Mexican, she has always extremely huge in my community.

This one was great. I love listening to people talk about stuff they are interested or invested in. The podcasts are just another thing I get to look foward to.

Loved this ep, I know you said it was a bit of a rambling mess (at least before editing) but it turned out great! You can tell how invested you are in Selena's story, and you have fun telling it. Great work from you and S. And it fits perfectly with mystery time, even a solved mystery is still a mystery! Looking forward to more stories with future guests :)

Just finished listening. Really good stuff. My knowledge of the subject was primarily because of the movie, so I learned some new things, too! Excellent job. ❤❤❤

I remember Selena vividly because she was from my home state, Texas. After her death you couldn't turn on a radio station in the state and not hear her song. Like other artists taken before their time she left a massive impact on not just Tejano music but the recording industry as a whole. Sometimes I still listen to Bidi Bidi Bom Bom and I Could Fall in Love, her massive crossover hits.
