Personally, Capaldi is my all time favorite Doctor. I think the biggest problem with his run was that they kept pushing Clara and her story too hard for the first two seasons, and then in the final season they kept faking you out with the regeneration. I think if he had been like Smith and gotten a fresh start with a fresh companion, it could've been its own thing and could have been great. But because they pushed Clara so hard, it felt like a continuation of Smith's run but with a grumpy old man instead.
