Try to use mograph effectors. For instance plane effector with -1 scale + time field. For mask the same use effectors and fields but just one more thing if u masked your shape don’t forget freezing initial state otherwise your points will pass through the filed. I hope it make sense.

Hi, thanks for a great tutorial, is there anyway one can mask the particles to a shape so you dont just see the whole grid at once?

It's a neat solution to use the rope tag for now for the particles simulation. I hope Maxon will continue update their simulations and add new particle system (and rigid body) soon. Should be faster then i guess, since with this rope approach you simulate two points to get out one particle point. But great tutorial as always, looking forward to the new one in January!
