Episode 662: The Metal Gear Storyline, Pt. II

Jeremy: Good things are worth waiting for! I like to tell myself. And hope that this episode is indeed good, and that it qualifies for "worth waiting for" status. Tomm, Shane, and I discussed the first half of the Metal Gear saga's storyline back in episode 624, I believe, and here just in time for the end of the calendar year we've managed to fulfill our commitment to complete the conversation. Whew.

Is this a comprehensive analysis of the series' plot? Friends, this is only two hours of conversation. That would be impossible. Does it manage to make sense of the narrative and its many twists and turns? Again, let's not expect inhuman feats. Does it present the unfiltered perspectives of three slightly befuddled men who often find themselves forced to grapple with the nonsensical nature of a lifelong fandom? Heck yes it does. And if you've been a Metal Gear fan for any amount of time, you'll find this episode profoundly relatable.

(Incidentally, I regret the Harry Kim analogy in here. I hadn't watched the most recent season of Lower Decks yet and therefore didn't realize that this question has been given a conclusive answer.)

Comments

I would absolutely love the MGS4 pod, I fully agree that the first two acts are the best and then it’s mainly robots on Shadow Moses and the Prague area doesn’t really take advantage of the cool mechanics in the first two acts. And I think it’s the only game I’ve ever played where you had the opportunity to save during the ending cutscene because it’s literally like, an hour?!

Lol too funny. Also thank you for not being mean to me.

The funny thing is, the day after this went up, Tomm saw a documentary on TV talking about sahelanthropuses and DMed me about it.—JP

It's called Sahelanthropus because it's based on the hominids from the Sahel region.

It's silly to change your story simply because people "figured it out". It's about the journey, not the destination. You know Batman, Goku, or whomever will win in the end. It's the means to that end that makes the story good or bad.

Is that the best cover art ever for Retronauts? Might be!

Been waiting for this one
