OK on the third one I feel like they completely brushed over Joseph’s point of body issues. Also, it’s a classic case of one side is expected to have all kinds of interpersonal conflict, resolution skills, and the other side is not. She’s allowed to just react. He has to manage her reaction.

2025-06-02 23:48:34 +0000 UTCFor the third one, while I do agree it’s not correct to invalidate someone’s perception of a situation, that doesn’t necessarily mean it always The reality of the situation opposed to their reality. Her misconstruing what both he and his friend (and friends partner) were saying and framing it as a remark against her is against the reality, and when people alternate the reality of a situation to make it about how they’ve personally been slighted, it can be damaging. While people can do things that accidentally hurt people, I don’t want this to sound like blaming someone who can be perceived as victim, not all feelings align with reality. Competent different example but, if she saw him talking to female friends and thought he was cheating on her with them, while it’s of course not good to make your partner feel that way, how people perceive your actions isn’t always your fault.

2024-04-01 13:10:24 +0000 UTCI will say that I think that the semantic difference between “you gained weight” and “you got fat” is important. Gaining or losing weight is neutral without the context of your overall health as properly monitored by a medical professional. I know that our culture has a lot of negative associations with weight gain but I still try to keep the two notions separate. Losing weight can be bad and gaining weight can be good. I’m not making any claims about any particular body types or health states, just being a semantic little nerd about our use of language so that conversations can be more productive.

2024-02-01 04:10:27 +0000 UTCReally good episode. Definitely my favorite so far. With that last story, I feel like something that was missed, but could be a key to this, is that the guy could be lying to himself about not being insecure about his weight gain. Him getting defensive about her calling him fat (even if that was a slip up from her or not what she meant) definitely gives me the vibes of someone who is insecure but not willing to admit it to themselves (speaking from experience). I think with that in mind, it definitely can explain his defensiveness more and why he didn't handle it the best. Also, are there any plans to create a discord? I simply must have a place to yapp about these topics
