I have been watching the Untamed, I will say that it takes some getting used too. I feel that Chinese Drama have their own "style" which is different than Western story telling and acting, but I did not find it too bad. As I mentioned before I do find good chemistry between the actors who play Lan Wanji (Wang Yi Bo) and Wei Ying (Xiao Zahn). I amazes me that Wang Yibo (LW) is also a well know Rapper in China, since he plays stone faced Lan Wanji pretty well. Wany Yibo uses his eyes to convey LW's thoughts and feelings. Xian Zahn's smile is to die for and eh does a good job conveying the complex emotions that Wei goes through in story. One other thing to consider, that we don't have in the west is that in China they dub over the actors voices which might make the acting and the spoken words feel weird. From what I understand they dub over the actors voices because some actors have dialects that are harder to understand. Now the "special effects" at times those are a bit cringe worthy, but if you can get past those and just focus on the story. Let not talk about those shoes, though, ugh they just too silly for me. Yes there are changes to the story, have you ever seen an exact retelling of any novel? They adaptations so there are always changes including in the Donghua. I do think that the basic "skeleton" of the story and characters is still there in the Untamed. Honestly, don't think there is any harm in giving it a go, it might either be your cup of tea or not. Of course there is the other media you can check out... the Audio drama (which you can find Eng Sub on Youtube), the manhua, the novel and then there is the fan art (tons of artwork of LW/WWX together) plus fan made music.

The writing for Jiang and Wei is so well done it break my heart finding out more detail of how it fell apart. Regarding the live action I think I may still enjoy it as i enjoy the three kingdoms tv series and my god that was something ha but I still loved it, i wont watch it until season 3 of the anime out anyway which im looking forward to so much have a good new year :)

If you truly love the story, I highly recommend reading the novel. It’s fleshed out a lot more and expands in a different way. There are a lot of translated versions now. You’ll get to understand and know the characters in a lot more detail and the feels are real! You will feel such emotions, and you’ll get to see that Wei though very honourable and likeable a character, who’s always been strong to rise against adversity and does the right thing, ultimately was also just very human and that he’s made a lot of mistakes and had to pay for the consequences of those mistakes. This makes his character a lot more compelling. And the quiet sacrifices Lan Wangji makes behind the scenes makes him such a lovable husband material! Lol just saying.

I wish there were more episodes too! I love the donghua eventhough in the second season it’s changed some of the plot points from the novel but it captures the essence of the novel so well, and the characters. You’ll find that Wen Qing also dies. The only Wen surviving is the small child. You may have a guess as to who that child has grown into as a teen now. He’s already appeared. The Jin clan are hideous, they’re worse than Wen in the sense they do things clandestinely and are very sly and manipulative. The next season will have a side story with side characters that are heavily involved in the Jin clan’s treacherous acts behind the scenes. You have seen briefly one of the characters who will be involved which is the person who marked his opponents with the frosted flower wound- he’s a good guy but will be direly affected by the Jin clan’s hideous plans. Jiang Cheng has always had a complicated relationship with Wei because Wei’s always so much more talented than he is and he always had Uncle Jiang’s affections and approval slot more than Jiang did. So though he loves Wei as a brother, he’s always had a thorn by his side that he’s intimidated and threatened by him. And with the recent events you’ve just seen, from Jiang Cheng’s point of view, he wants to protect Wei from becoming such a target from all the others, and he just wishes that Wei would just behave subordinately and keep his head down for once. He feels that he is only rebuilding the Jiang sect and he’s so much younger than the others, his influence isn’t strong enough to keep Wei safe should he insist on going against the other sects. He thinks Wei having flaunted his prowess and especially how powerful the Stygian Tiger amulet is would only attract the likes of Jin clan who wants to neutralise Wei and claim the power for themselves. Their story is very sad because they will never return to their brotherly relationship as before when Jiang Yanli dies. I would not recommend the live action. It changes the major storyline and core plot points a lot. The acting is terrible and the special effects are awful too. I was most disappointed in it when I tried giving it a good go and watched 22 episodes but it’s just an eyesore.
