It's not strange that you think Yousef was a Muslim. The way Sana is asking him questions in the end here and because of how they are talking later I'm sure he is from a Islamic family. And Yousef is Elias' friend, so don't think it's so strange that she doesn't know that about him.

I actually used to think season 3 was my favorite but I really love season 4 more on rewatch.

I love getting to see the softer side of Sana this season. Her chemistry with Yousef is great. Yousef does seem a bit more liberal than your stereotypical representation of a Muslim man, but some of that probably comes from the influence of the Norwegian culture. Gender roles seem to be less defined there, so I think it’s not so uncommon to see a man working with young children. I’ve seen it in a lot of other tv shows set in Norway. But that contrast between the traditional Muslim way of life and Norway’s progressive values is a big part of Sana’s story. She is often shown standing on one side of a doorway or window and looking through to the other side, which I believe is meant to symbolize how she is kind of a part of two different worlds without fully belonging in either. ✨
