Thanks for starting this! Watching Battlestar Galactica back in 2004 totally blew my 12yo mind, and I think the show still has a ton of interesting things to say. A couple of things you mentioned in the video:
- The Expanse does ruin everything else in terms of realism, haha. Battlestar falls somewhere in the middle, where they do have to worry about oxygen and water but there's no focus on accurate physics.
- Battlestar had a decent budget for the time. More than a typical TV show but less than something like The Expanse today. You can definitely tell when they had to save money in certain episodes, but the big moments still hold up.
Glad you enjoyed the first episode :-)

Firstly... Where is a big belter with a Iron rod, when you need one on Caprica with the Raptor :D
One thing you need to keep in mind as well with this series is the time in which it was aired. Remember this was broadcast on network television right at the height of the Iraq war and the 'War on Terror', and some of the themes and such it deals with would have been ground breaking on American telly at the time.
With the older fighters just imagine today, with all the advanced jets, they they require so much computer support to actually fly. A jet fighter from back in the 70's would mop the floor with them without those computer systems.
There are alot of nods to the old 1970's series (Though the story is significantly different)., like the old Centurion robots in the museum.

Wish we could have gotten both parts today, BSG has a lot of eps in their seasons, should have just burned through the whole mini series. Couple little requests please, your mic is blaring loud. Can you turn down a little? Also, please don't talk over Adama..it's like sacrilege lol and pause vid when you want to say something, please? Not trying to sound like an ass, just passing on some BSG reaction rules :) Yeah this show is grim, with victories that are fought hard for and earned. Some of the best character development in any series. It's a good thing you're starting Farscape soon, it'll balance out the bleakness of BSG. I know hitting you with a 3 hour pilot is a lot, but hope you consider doing part 2 before next Sunday. So happy you decided to check this out! Thanks :)

The thing you gotta remember, is that the blond Cylon infiltrated Gaius for months. She told him, she's a consultant for a security firm, so wanted access to make improvements to the system. In reality she kept on getting the blue prints to their entire defense mainframe, and when the time came to strike uploaded a virus to disable the whole thing.
So it wasn't done within a few hours, but the first episode is the aftermath of months of espionage. That and the fact, the Cylons have obviously better tech is the explanation for all of that. This show is vastly different from the Expanse, as it deals more about the political elements which is great on its own right. Pretty sure, you're going to enjoy this a lot.
