2021-07-27 15:08:14 +0000 UTCFirst of all, I'm sad you got spoiled about something on the show and I really hope it won't happen again. I understand rendering problems and I'm thankful that you still managed to save most of the reaction, even though I'm sad I did not get to see your reactions to two Merthur scenes, the one in which Arthur talks about sharing a bed with Merlin (and of course Merlin trying to deny what he truly thought :P and that second scene, the campfire with the knights and Merlin and Arthur looking at Merlin from his tent and the music playing in the background and Merlin noticing Arthur's gaze, I just... this is straight out of a romcom movie ! I hate it too when they argue and Arthur is being stubborn and pushing Merlin away :( Bloody Agravaine and his snake panipulative ways with Arthur... Arthur's sometimes too good and naive and it's definitely the case with Agravaine. I'm no Arthur/Gwen shipper (as you know) but this episode compared to Arthur's attitude in episode 10 of season 3, in which he had absolutely no problem defying Uther to defend his feelings, well here, Arthur gives up way too fast and it's almost out of character. In my opinion, Gwen should have made him work much harder to gain her forgiveness after what he said to her.... That intro when you said it was a dream, yep it's Arthur's dream of Merlin being a knight :P Also, Merlin is totally wearingArthur's cloak (there are comparisons pictures to prove it hehe) and also Arthur is still wearing the blue cloak Merlin gave him in season 2 episode 2. These two are just so married :D This episode also introduces us to one of my fave guest character, Queen Annis, she's such a good addition and I love her interactions with Arthur and Morgana in this episode. The parallels between the two are really well done. The episode starts with Arthur acting like Uther when he killed her husband and then Morgana shows up telling her she came in the name of the man she considers her real father, Gorlois. And at the end, we get this reversal and I love when Annis tells Morgana that she's more like Uther than she thought. Such a good line! And it is so true when you think about it, Morgana started on the show being so full of compassion and yet there still was this constant anger and desire to rebel, and yes, it was not all her fault what she became, but in the end of season 3, when she murdered those innocent citizens, she did become more like Uther, unlike him though, she attacked innocent non magical people. Katie does a great job with Morgana this season, less smirky and more focus on the acting. This episode is also such a great character piece for Arthur who at the beginning is still influenced by his snake of an uncle but gradually realizes what kind of King he wants to be. Arthur has known for a long time though that he wanted to be a different king than his father and we got proof of that many times even as early as in season one. When he put his life on the line for a servant (4x04), when he helped save a druid boy (1x08), when he disobbeyed his father and went after Merlin, Morgana, Gwen and Hunith to help a village that wasn't even within Camelot's borders (1x10) when he was willing to sacrifice his life for his people (the curse of the unicorn, fighting the dragon in season 2, going on a quest to sacrifice his life to save his kingdom from the Dorochas this season). But it's the fact that he became king so unexpectedly that made him feel so insecure, he said it himself to Uther, he did not feel ready, and so he's vulnerable to bad influences and Agravaine is the worst influence... And yet, in his own time and with the stubborness of his friends, his knights, he realized that he did not have to bear this burden alone, he can count on the support of his friends. This reminds me of that scene when Arthur gets the support of eveyone around the round table in season 3. I also love how that episode shows how quickly things can go wrong with one wrong decisions, the scale of the consequences is huge and Arthur could have lost half of his kingdom in his first year of reign. Of course, what I also love about this episode is the Merlin and Arthur scenes, Merlin completely refusing to be pushed aside and reminding Arthur he's his friend and he's not going anywhere. The scene just before the fight gives him all kinds of feelings. It's just perfect and the way they both smile at each other <3 And Arthur making sure that Merlin's ready to let him go. Like you said, their chemistry is off the charts in this episode (and all the others of course). The fact that no one noticed Morgana standing next to Annis is quite baffling XD There are a few running jokes about the show among the fandom (as you may be aware of already since you've mentioned a few in the past) : the guards in Camelot are shit, the cells in Camelot are so easy to break out of, everyone in Camelot but Merlin, Gwen and Gaius are either blind or deaf when it comes to Merlin or Morgana's magic or obvious traitors like Agravaine XD but we love the show no matter what :D It's part of it's charm, and it gave us some of the best memes XD My favorite being oblivious Arthur (I'll share the links when you're done with the show) and all the crack videos as well :D (so many to chose from so little time to watch them all XD) Oh my, you are going to love next week's episode ! It's a big fan favorite and there is one thing that happens in it that we had been waiting for for so long !!!!! We literally broke Tumblr back then because of that XD (ah good memories) and of course the return of Dragoon the Great is always fun to look forward to ! I really hope you won't have any trouble with rendering the reaction *fingers crossed* because I need to see the entirety of it :D
