Crichton's character certainly undergoes major change over the course of this season alone, from the wide eyed scientist type to being more cocky and reckless. The experiences he's been through have very realistically taken the edge off his optimistic, non violent approach to this new universe and made him a lot more pessimistic and hostile.

He is really rather fearless in his acting and is willing to really put his all into showing John's inner turmoil and pain. There are moments in this series were his acting alone sends shivers down my spine. So, so, good. This is just the start.
