I just realised the intro had changed from a “young boy” to a “young man” signifying his maturity and is character growth. He’s knows his destiny and is fully wholeheartedly accepted his magic.

Season 4 !!!! I'm so hyped for your reactions :D This two parter is my favorite as opening of the seasons go (season 3 is my second favorite). Did you notice in the opening, the dragon said "rests on the shoulder of a young man" instead of boy ? Our Merlin is a man now :) (I remember all the memes linking that to the little skit Colin did with Catherine Tate and in which she says "he's a gay man now" XD ) And also the opening titles have changed too which is pretty cool :D The opening with Merlin running around through the castle is really fun, I love how lively and lighthearted it starts, and we see Merlin being berated by the cook, little detail like Merlin hanging Arthur's shirt in the kitchen to dry and Gwaine and Percival teaming up to steal food XD also Merlin being teased by Lancelot, I just love their friendship so much! The reason why there are so many servants around is because of the feast preparations. We do see lots of servants on other occasions like that in earlier seasons too. But it was pretty cool following Merlin on his morning routine as a servant. And then the scene with Arthur is just so adorable and funny. When you miss characters in between seasons, it's usually in the opening of the new season that you're remininded how much you love them, well this scene was definitely that for me. Also, the way that scene is acted and written, is just so playful and it ends with Arthur looking like he just flirted with his crush :D Morgana is getting more interesting as a villain is this episode, in season 3, she was already a big threat but she was mostly relying on Morgause or even Cenred, but now she's alone (well apart from Agravaine) and I think that makes her even more dangerous, she has nothing left to lose and she is determined to get rid off Arthur and gain the throne. She's also afraid of Emrys, and the vision she had. The Dorocha are really creepy and I love the way the episode was filmed to give the audience a constant sense of unease and paranoia, and with the sound effects of the screams, this episode really is scary at times. I was also very excited about having the knights of the round table, we'd been waiting for years and it was worth the wait. I love the epic music when they depart from Camelot, and the slow mo as we see each of them mount their horses. Just so good! In this episode, Gaius sais something really significant and important about the Dorocha , not sure if you paid attention to it but it's definitely worth a re-watch after finishing the second episode of season 4. I really wonder why they did not sacrifice Uther to close the veil, that would have been an efficient solution too, especially since he's no longer fit to rule... But well, Arthur would never sacrifice his father, he's always been the one to sacrifice his life for his kingdom after all, it parallels to episode 11 of season 1 when he killed the Unicorn and then had to choose between him or Merlin drinking poison to save Camelot from the curse. I actually made a fanvideo parallelling the two episodes and there are a few scenes that are similar between the two episodes. Merlin's magic being innefective against the Dorocha was a good twist, it's rare seing him so scared and helpless. But even then, he still decides to come with Arthur in the intention of sacrificing his life to save him and Camelot. These two self sacrificing idiots really are made for each other, two sides of the same coin, more like two sides of the same idiot. Lancelot trying to convince Merlin to leave, haha, as if Merlin would ever leave Arthur's side. The bromances among the knights are plentyful, we have Gwaine and Percival (although, people started shipping them after that episode), Percival and Elyan, Leon and Elyan, Lancelot and Merlin, and of course Arthur with all of them. The music in season 4 is a thing of beauty, the soundtrack was already amazing before but season 4 just knocks it out the park with the music. My favortie theme is called "The bond of sacrifice" and it's mostly played during Merlin and Arthur scenes which is why for me, it's their theme. It's played during that last scene when they're hiding from the Dorocha and they talk about what could have been if they'd beend different people, not a prince and his servant. By the way, I love what you said abouth them being lovers, you really are one of us ;) The scene is already beautiful and the acting between Colin and Bradley is just so flawless and then you add on th theme and it's perfection. When Merlin, without hesitation jumps in front of the Dorocha, you can see Arthur reach for him to try and stop him <3 these two, I just love them so much. And then we have that cliffhanger of Merlin being frozen.... Man, I hated waiting an entire week for the next episode. Now, for you who obviously love Merlin /Arthur, there is a deleted scene from that episode that is considered one of their best scenes on the show, it's a crime that it's been deleted because it's such a perfect little and simple scene between the two of them and yet so significant. Most of us agree that the scene was deleted because of the romantic tones in it , even though it was said to be deleted because of the pacing of the episode. Some of the dialogues was kept in that last scene they hid together at the end of the episode. I believe the deleted scene was probably an alternate version of that scene that may have happened earlier in the episode. It's not clear why they're alone in a cave but, eneough said, here's the link : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jP7Q1nOjQZo&ab_channel=DevinCarnes It'd be great if you could maybe react to the scene (it's less than a minute long) or maybe mention it in the opening of the next episode reaction. Anyway, I think it is a must see scene and I just wanted to share it with you (but I'm sure other fans would have done the same). I was also so happy when you mentioned the deleted moment at the round table from the previous episode, it's a real shame they did not keep it in the episode. Have a good week and I can't wait for the next reaction !
