First of all I hope you had a happy Easter :) Another great reactions, and OMG I can't believe you nearly finished the fourth season!! It's been quite a solid season with great episodes. But for me this first parter has to be one of the weakest of the show. Don't get me wrong, I really like this episode, but compared to the season 3 first part of the finale, it doesn't come close, especially with that cliffhanger scene of Morgana taking the throne and Arthur finding out she his sister. For me, this moment just can't be topped by anything happening in this episode. But still, very good episode, and we get a lot of Merlin and Arthur scenes which is why I love it. The opening of the episode has to be one of the less subtle slash scene ever on the show (apart from Merlinmagiccing Arthur's pants off in 4x04) XD Also, that scene at the banquet, once again screams old married bickering couple :P Agravaine has been a pain this entire season, but I actually quite enjoy him in this episode, I also live for the scene when Morgana is just threatening him so casually, chef's kiss! The whole invasion is really epic, with the fight scenes, the running around and of course the music !! Music in Merlin is just so good and always fits to the scenes perfectly. One little downside, in my opinion, is the use of so many slow motion shots. Some look really cool but others just feel like it's overdone. Morgana and Helios work quite well together, and you can feel that Agravaine is so uncomfortable about that alliance (for good reasons, considering how ruthless Helios seems to be in that torture scene, just eating his chicken while we hear Elyan's screams....). This episode also kinda explains why Agravaine is loyal to Morgana, in the goodbye scene, it's clear he care about her a lot more than he should. This was already hinted at, when he found her at the end of 4x06 knocked out after her fight with Merlin. We could see how worried he was for her. And there's also a deleted scenes from an earlier episode in which we see him try to reach for her quite inaproprietly, and she rejcts his touch. So yeah, he's definitely worried and jealous of her alliance with Helios and that's why he was reluctant to leave Camelot. Morgana is really confident this episode, she's so empowered I love the way Katie plays her. I especially love the scene when she's just casually sitting on the throne after the invasion, so iconic. Her scenes with Gwaine are really good too and no wonder people started to ship them after that episode :P in a very fifty shades of grey kind of way but instead it's fifty shades of Morgana ;) I both hate and kinda love the simpleton Arthur scenes. I hate that Merlin used such a spell on him, taking away his will, and then manipulating and even taking advantage of the spell. It doesn't feel very in character for Merlin to do that to Arthur. I get that he had no choice and had to think fast, but a simple temporary memory wipe would have been enough and Arthur still could have been able to defend himself. Anyway, I won't rant too much about it so I'll get to the parts I actually liked about it. Bradley's acting in those scenes is just so good you can't help but laugh but also feel very protective of Arthur. I also love the way in some scenes, Colin chose to act very tender and soothing when Merlin interracts with Arthur in this condition. My favorite bit has too be when Arthur is hugging the tree (or listening for woodworms) and Merlin comes next to him and just tenderly gets him to follow him. That scene is just so adorable and I love it. There's also a funny parallel in the scene where Tristan helps Isolde down from the carridge and we see Merlin struggling with Arthur in the background, probably also trying to help him get down XD Colin and Bradley have such perfect comedic timing, that even though I don't really like that Merlin used that spell, I can still enjoy these scenes. Also, these were goldmine for all the crack and humor videos XD I also love the way Bradley acts the simpleton after the spell wears off XD He uses a sort of pirate accent and it's even funnier than the previous scenes, and of course the back and forth with Merlin makes it even better. And no matter how mad Arthur is with Merlin, the moment they're in danger, he immediately reached for him and activated his protective mode without a second thought. I also love how confused Tristan and Isolde were when Arthur just took charge. I love how both Merlin and Arthur are using crossbows in synch. Also Merlin with a crossbow will always remind me of servants of two masters XD My favorite scene in the episode (and the best kind of scenes in the show in general) is when Merlin and Arthur talk near the campfire. Poor Arthur feels so betrayed, he just doesn't understand why people he cared for keep betraying him... This scene also hurts because we, as the audience, know that Merlin has also been hiding a huge part of himself for years now and hearing Arthur say that must make him feel guilty too. Still, it's a beautiful scene and these moments are the best in the show, the simple scenes with just the two of them talking. Another thing I love in the episode is the return of Hunith! She may not be in may episodes, but Hunith is my favorite secondary character in the show and seeing her reunite with Merlin after so long just warms my heart. I also love that Merlin told Gwen to go to Ealdor. I kinda wish we had seen Hunith welcome her and take care of her after her arrival. Of course, the show being what it is, we can't have happy moments last and of course Agravaine found them and attacked the village.... Like you I was worried abouth the knights this episode... Good choice not watching the preview because it can be a bit spoilery for two parters. I'm really looking forward to your next reaction ! Well until next week :) Have a good end of Easter weekend :) (sorry this comment was a bit of a mess XD)
