The Many (Plastic) Faces of Tigra

Greer Grant has seen a number of transformations through her heroic career. She started out as costumed crime-fighter The Cat - wearing an outfit that would later become better known as Hellcat's.

After The Cat, Ms. Grant became "Tigra" - transformed by the Cat People to be their warrior. Not many people recall that at first Tigra had no tail. It was only much later that she grew one.

Ms. Greer has had a few action figure interpretations.

In the middle back we have her Marvel Hall of Fame She-Force figure, which was actually just a repaint of Black Cat - which is why she has on boots! I have mixed feelings about this one, I like the extra fur (see below) but because it is from a mold meant for someone whose fur was part of a costume it doesn't come across as a natural extension of her transformed feline physique - it grows the wrong way! Also, as mentioned, she has boots?!

To the right we have Ms. Greer as realized in the short lived Avengers: United They Stand cartoon. Although the series was not well received by fans, and made a lot of questionable visual choices, I do really like how Tigra was imagined for it. The extra fur and more pronounced claws really push the feline alterations to her physique. I enjoy the natural flow of the fur and even the tufts on her shoulders.

Middle front is Tigra's Minimate. Not the most physically accurate version, but that isn't what the line is going for. I do like how her torso is painted.

Finally, to the left, we have the Walmart Exclusive Marvel Legends figure of Tigra. As far as capturing her 616 comic appearance I think she is well done, and I appreciate the accuracy of a character I really enjoy reading. I would have liked more defined claws on the hands, but her feet are nicely done. 616 comics Tigra is really mostly a woman painted to look like a tiger, so while I enjoy the extra feline features added to the A:UTS figure I am pleased to have one who well represents the Tigra I know best.

Although there are some more pieces beyond these out there, Tigra is someone who is still fairly hard to find realized in physical art form. I hope that as her new TV show with Dazzler comes closer to happening we'll see new models of her many imaginings become available.
