if you love romance anime then i think you will really enjoy Thai BL. Like I mentioned, there are dozens upon dozens of them. GMMTV itself does like 4 or 5 every single year and then there are tons of other companies who do them too. I will say that they do vary in quality, but IMBD or mydramalist should generally be a good idea of which ones are good, or people will definitely suggest you some. yeah its a shame BL anime isn't as big. Its strange why not (saying that, BL dramas from Japan are starting to prop up more and more. There's been a few recently, Cherry Magic, Kieta Hatsukoi, and My Beautiful Man, all were very good). The one series other than Given that I know of is Love Stage!! which was a 10 ep anime based off a manga I really loved. Ppl had mixed opinions on it, but I really liked it and, in fact, Thailand just started airing a drama version of Love Stage. Only 1 ep is out and it's not *yet* available with english subs, but I did enjoy it. You will never be short for options with BL romances tbh. There are a good hundred that come out ever year nowadays. edit: oh and one more thing, literally earlier today/yesterday, Bad Buddy won 2 awards. 1 for Best BL series, another for Best overall Thai Series so GREAT timing on your reactions there

Also, Bad Buddy is officially uploaded on Youtube, on the GMMTV channel, and you can also watch it there for free. It's uploaded by parts, but I just wanted to let you know you also have that option if you need another source to watch it as a back up!

I'm so excited you're watching this! Hope you have fun and enjoy it! This is a great introduction to the world of Thai BL It's funny like the comment said above many of the GMMTV actors all work on many projects and different series for the company so it's fun seeing them in other stuff, almost like a GMMTV cinematic universe lol As far as future stuff, id recommend Tharntype and my personal favorite BL called Don't Say No, once your a bit more used to them. But warning these two shows are under a different company called MeMindY and this company tends to be a bit heavier and more liberal showing the sexy times and stuff lol anywho excited to watch along again..it just ended but I miss it dearly so any excuse to watch again is appreciated!

This is one of those series that starts at a normal pace but then it gets better and better. I hope you get to enjoy it as much as the rest of us have. I personally am still attached to the characters and I have been missing them a lot, so I'm so happy to rewatch them again with you!

one reason I wanted to start them is I love romance anime and sorted watched all the good ones so I will happily open a new door to more. shame BL anime series isn't as strong though heard manga has quite a few good ones

Very true! It is a lot to get used to. Its definitely (the effects) smth very unique to Thai BL--i think maybe in part is because it does take cues from japanese anime? Thats where "y series" comes from i believe in fact; "yaoi series" (even tho not all bl is yaoi even tho all yaoi is bl) And no problem for the detailed comment. Ive watched dozens upon dozens of these shows. They are really quite fun when you want a romantic show, esp cuz western series are just made so differently than Asian dramas which tend to focus on a very specific story for 8 - 16 eps.

Just wanted to drop thank you for the detailed comment, I've just read through it and ill go over it in the next reaction. tbf to the sound effect ill get used to them, if I can get used to the laughing tracks I can get used to anything, i rather have sound effect then laughing tracks. My thanks again for the background on Thai BL looking forward to see what i think of it plus i welcome advertisements like these i find them charming reminds me of MDZS

1) yes, you can just call them BL. In thailand they technically call them "y series", but generally everyone else just calls them BL. 2) there are a LOT of choices for BL romances, esp from Thailand. BL got popular because of Japan, but Thailand is definitely the leading country for BL series. Many of them are very good and more and more come out each year. Some are lighter, some are heavier, some are softer on the kissing, some go all-in. It really all depends on what you're up for. 3) sound effects are something you get used to. they are BIG in Thai series. 4) the previews are cuz the ep is is copied from the official Youtube links. The channel breaks the episode up into 4 parts, I assume because when it airs on tv, commercials. And they always do a "coming up next" preview. If you watch on youtube, you can easily skip the preview and just go to the next part. That's usually what I do. 5) you will see a lot of ridiculously large sized dorms in Thai BL. a lot of Thai BLs have well-off characters actually. 6) fun-fact, the girl who plays Pat's sister, Pa, she (her name is Love) and Pat's actor (Ohm) are classmates irl. They were actually in another BL together where she played the younger version of his mother. While watching Thai BLs, you'll notice many of them have cast in common, and even in some of the time, the main actors will act together as love interests as different characters in multiple dramas. They develop a brand together. On that note, Ohm (Pat) and Nanon (Pran) are best friends in real life, have been for a long time. This is their first BL series together, Nanon's first BL series in general, and Ohm's FIFTH BL series. He actually didn't want to do another BL, but the director was like "what if you get to act with Nanon?" and he said yes right away because they really badly wanted to act together. Their chemistry is amazing through the series. 7) music is also another big thing in Thai BL. they do it a LOT. you do get used to it. it is funny watching someone who hasn't seen Thai BL before cuz I never give a 2nd thought to these things as I've been watching Thai BL since the very first one to ever air aired, back when it was still kinda censored and they could hardly even air them (not as badly as China, but they still had to shoe-horn in a ton of heterosexual romances that weren't in the book it was based on in order for it to be able to air, plus they could barely show 1 kiss on screen, now its different. That BL was called Lovesick the Series). So seeing someone who isn't used to these things is really funny. 7) re a teacher getting involved, yeah, probably, but something they mention very quickly in the beginning is that the faculties of Engineering and Architecture have ALWAYS had issues with each other. Pat's dad reiterates this as well during the dinner scene. They've been fighting for decadessss there's only so much a teacher can do. There's just an eternal rivalry. Like with Pat and Pran's parents! There is one note I do want to make. It's not a spoiler, but it's something that a lot of people focused on through the show when they really shouldn't have and that is: homophobia. A lot of people thought some of the issues that props up is cuz of homophobia (and that created confusion for some reactors) and it's not. In the world of this series, homophobia doesn't exist, it's just a choice they made, so homophobia doesn't tie into any of the show coming up. This ep is def an intro ep, this show is a rom-com, so at times it will be a bit more silly, but in general, many Thai BL is just like that, especially coming from the channel that made this one, GMMTV. After Bad Buddy, if you want a more serious one, I'd suggest I Told Sunset About You (5 eps) & it's part 2/sequel I Promised You The Moon (also 5 eps). Saying all this, I will say Bad Buddy has quickly become my favorite BL. It's really very good in my opinion. There's a reason it's the highest rated BL now on IMBD, most of that is due to Ohm (Pat) and Nanon (Pran). You'll see it going through, but their chemistry together really shines. I do want to prepare you for a couple of things (again, not spoilers). Thai BL, esp GMMTV series like this one, have a lot of advertisements within the show itself. Bad Buddy does them well, but people not used to Thai BL will definitely find them to be... *a lot* and unnecessary, but hey, you have to get your sponsors in right? and sponsors are a HUGE part of the Thai BL industry. Thai BL really started in like 2014 with Lovesick the Series (which is based on a book. in fact, many series are based off books including Bad Buddy, altho some of the time, like in the case of Bad Buddy, they hold very little resemblance to the novels) and it got very popular, especially the two leads and so when that happens, the leads get a lot of fans and sponsorship deals. GMMTV is the biggest company that makes BLs and Ohm & Nanon are already big names in the television world, plus the director has directed a few other hits, mainly BLs, so Bad Buddy is practically BURSTING with sponsorship and advertisements. It's just another thing, along with the music and sound effects, that you eventually get used to. I'll leave it there for now, tho I will say (and I'll remind you in the future), that episodes 6, 11, and 12 have... not end credit scenes, but they have extra scenes after the initial "directed by..." screen that pops up, so make sure not to turn it off before you get there. I'm excited to see your thoughts on future eps... and if you get used to the sound effects or not :P
