This time, it is Maria Renton‘s turn to teach the Jungle Queen who is experiencing her first Holiday season with Ron and the girls.
La: This ”Holiday season” it truly baffles me...
Maria: What about it baffles you, dear?
La: Well, you and the other concubines each run around and spend half a fortune on trinkets to then wrap up in colorful paper and then exchange on a given date. Why don’t you just keep the money?
Maria: It’s about ‘giving’, my dear.
La: But why is the ’giving’ part so important? Surely our king can support you. You don’t need to give each other anything.
Maria: Exactly dear. You don’t need to. You do it, in order to show affection and consideration to those close to you. An act of kindness.
La: Ah... I see... so it’s a symbolic transaction... this world truly is complicated.
