Hey everyone.

I’ve once again been at my grandma’s place to help clean it up. I found some old trinkets of my grandfather. Including a crest for the his old military beret. As he also served in the Danish Royal Guard like I did, it was a little emotional to be reminded of that time of my life.
It still feels like it was last year, and yet… it’s over a decade since I was walking in the Queens cloth (As we say here😊).
But it was kinda nice to feel, that I had walked and stood guard the castles my grandfather had. I have lived the code he once did. Becoming a Royal Guard is like becoming a member of a club. It’s a lifetime membership.
My brother too served as a Royal Guard when he came of age.

(Military Conscription is obligatory in my country, but the demand for troops is very low. So you get to draw a number. If it is very high, then you are not obligated to participate. I drew a ridiculously high number, but I volunteered.)

I never really got to know my grandfather. He died when I was barely a year old.

We never know what we have, until it is taken from us.
