A sketch to inspire my dear writer.
I think I have mentioned the upcoming Tarzan crossover. Vivian receiving an inheritance from England, including Jane Porter’s and John Clayton Lord Greystoke‘s journals. Meaning of course Tarzan’s father, and not the Clayton character in the Disney Movie.
btw, Clayton is meant to be Tarzan’s relative, and if you look, you can see some similarities around the chin.
The Tarzan movie of Disney is my favorite. As a child I was horrified by the leopard, Sabor.
Although the movie is a great length from the book, in think it is not only a proper and modern translation of Edgar Rice Burroughs book.
I once read a first edition, and the animal under the name Sabor was not a leopard. In later editions Sabor became the lioness, but in the first, the very, very first Sabor was the tiger. Either Edgar Rice Burroughs didn’t know that tigers doesn’t exist in Africa, or perhaps he tried to distance the story from our universe a bit - given that he made a correction in later editions I think he was contacted by either travelers or zoologists of the time and he made corrections to his book.
I remembered that I giggled when I read about tigers in Africa 🤭🤭.
What I appreciated the most about the Disney movie was that I made a very good portrayal of our close relatives in the jungle. Gorillas were once perceived as vicious, deadly, mad meat eaters that craved human flesh. Early travelers even talked against having women on scientific expeditions to the African jungle, because there was a belief that gorillas would… well you know, abuse the women sexually. This was of course gobbeldigook and pure misogyny.
Today we know that gorillas are in fact strict vegetarians and are in fact very peaceful. Sure, the silverback can be aggressive, but such is his role, in order to protect his family. But most of the time, even the silverback male is actually a calm and gentle giant.
But one of the things I love the most about the Tarzan movie is the artistic brilliance and the music. I love the music. To this day the soundtrack of Tarzan are among the music I love the most in this world. The lullaby being one of my favorite of all songs.
My father is a huge lover of Phil Collins music, and that has passed on to me.
btw, the characters are Moyo the gorilla and aspiring Silverback in the Disney series the legend of Tarzan. Moyo was one of my favorite gorillas in that show. He was much like Kerchak. Stern, brave, stoic and defiant.
The girl clinging to him is Madison Mayhem, she loves animals and she loves gorillas most of all.
I hope you like this cute sketch. Sorry for the novel that follows.
Yours truly.
