Here is Freya.
Or Freja wherever you are in this world. She is the goddess of love and is often considered a goddess of the sun as well.
Oddly enough, she is also a goddess of war, and half the people who die on the field of battle goes to her.
I don’t know how she and Odin picks. If they flip a coin or perhaps just leave it to the men who die.
She resides in Folkvang and is considered Odins frille (concubine). Some has her as the same deity as Frigg. Which I can understand but I just don’t see. I see Frigg and Freya as two different goddesses.
Friggs powers suggest she is more of a goddess of the earth - perhaps a reincarnation of an earlier deity.
Freya is also not a real Asir. She is a Vanir. A clan of gods who actually fought the Asir for many years.
To settle a peace Freya was made a hostage in Asgard alongside her brother and father.
But the Asgardians ended up loving Freya and her family so much they offered them to stay even when the peace became strong and an alliance was formed. Freya and her family enjoyed being gods in Asgard and stayed.
Freya is described as being unbelievably beautiful, with sun kissed, freckled skin and golden hair. She is also mentioned to have lush breasts, that, when she is angry, swing around dangerously.
Yes, Freya can get angry.
She is described to be just as gentle and kind as the summer itself, and lets everyone who has the love in their hearts enter her bedchambers ♥️ but if you make her angry or force her to anything she can become as wild and dangerous as a hurricane. A real tempest. Kinda like the Veela in Harry Potter.
Fun fact, both her father and brother eventually married - both married Jotuns (Usually the mortal enemies of the gods).
Freya also married. A man named Od - who is considered to be Odin in disguise. After a short time he left her behind and made Freya so unhappy she cries golden tears.
But in most other stories Freya is described as both happy and fun loving. Pretty much a party girl in Asgard.
Some stories suggest she has a few children. One story tells us that she had twins with Od. A girl like Freya with golden hair and lush skin. And another girl equally beautiful, but with hair as dark as the night and skin as fair and white as the moon.
We don’t know anything about Freya’s mom.
But her fathers godly responsibilities might give us an idea.
Njord - Freya’s father, is the god of the ocean and of the wind.
This could suggest a deep love between the Njord and the sea. Perhaps the sea arose as a beautiful woman and Njord fell in love with her. He fathered two extraordinary children with her.
I always saw Freya as a daughter of the sea, because only the sea could bring forth something that beautiful. I think it’s because her Greek counterpart was born in this exact manner. Aphrodite was born in the ocean from the foam created by Uranos severed genitalia.
I hope you like this little info about Freya.
