It’s alive!

If you’ve missed it I’m in a local Maker Space and have spent the last few months donating all the parts and the time to teach those interested in building a 3D printer from scratch how to do just that.

I’d like you to meet Gurtrude. She’s a 450mm tall MK3s Bear with powerful motors and a 32bit brain.

This has been a difficult project with many many man hours donated but worth every bump in the road. Building a custom printer and fighting the small issues that arise and the one big issue are never easy but rewarding.

We fought a major issue that we thought was an issue I made in firmware. Thanks to Keith Bennet it was found to be a bug that was randomly in a marlin 3.0 bugfix I grabbed one day. It would zero all values in eeprom making it impossible to move any motors. It’s no longer the case after a day or porting over settings and finally setting up the custom firmware.

Another week or two and our donation to the maker space will be done. Shout out to Keith, Jason from LDO and Dave from printed solid for getting custom parts to me to help finish the project and to all the Patreons who donated over time because some of the funding from here went to finish the build so the maker space had its first printer they could call their own. Right now they are borrowing another members printer so they are stoked to have something they don’t eventually have to give back. It was only about $100 but I figured sharing something back to them was worth it to say everyone here helped make it happen.

Now to get to work editing some pics and then I’m going to finally hunker down and finish porting PLA profiles to V4 so I can release them on the Facebook group.

It’s alive!
