Tuning Knowledge: Bed PID

Bed PID tuning sounds weird right? Most of us have done a nozzle PID tune since it’s in the menu or we’ve done it manually but it’s something we may have heard is important. But what about the bed??

After a long time of testing I can tell when a print has a bad PID tune. Normally the tell tale sign is a layer pattern of layer in followed by layer out. What’s going on is the bed is in Bang Bang mode which sends large on and off pulses to keep the bed in temp range. It’s sucks for print quality.

What I do once I see the definite sign of a bad bed PID I run a manual bed tune using M303 E-1 C8 S65 where E-1 designates the bed while E0 will be extruder 1, C is the number of cycles so here we will run the test 8 times, and then S is the temp we tune for so here it’s 65C.

Use this to your advantage next time you’re having layer issues.
