So I’ve been printing away on and off for many hours testing and checking print quality and testing some more.
Basically do linear rails improve print quality??
No.
In the slightest yes. But overall I might get a speed improvement of 10% before seeing the same artifacting. Bed slingers with rails on the Y and rods on the X really aren’t going to enhance much because when you speed up a print the X axis has to suffer and we can’t force speed changes to one axis.
Is this mod good for anyone? If you are constantly having bearing and rod issues this is the best fix for that. The price of really good bearings is insane and I’m tired of spending the money for them between all my machines with the constant maintenance. These I can pop the ends off and slide the bed off and easily grease the bearings and go right back.
In the end I’m going to call these a Quality of Life improvement and not a practical enhancement.
So what’s next??? Linear rail X axis for sure to see if getting them both running on premium surfaces helps.
