It’s alive again!
Added 2020-01-19 21:17:50 +0000 UTCSuch a struggle with this printer. It prints beautifully and is feature rich but it’s been an adventure to keep running.
For the longest time I thought I had a firmware issue. Nope. Keith made me a firmware and it didn’t work. Tried motors tried testing voltages and so on. Nothing.
Took off the ribbon cable and fried connector. I put this machine on ice for months because of a simple cable swap but didn’t go looking there whatsoever. Now I have 4 spare of each ribbon cable and I’ve finished the first worthwhile mod on this printer.
The Artillery Sidewinder is a $400 direct drive 300x300x400mm printer with touch screen, silent steppers, and volcano hotend. The hotend is suspect. The clone titan aero has a removable heatsink which means it’s ability to properly keep cool is not that great. I’ve tried a bunch of hotends on it but everything is meh. Hemera launches and it seems like a perfect fit since I can keep my Volcano and not loose Z height.
Here we are now with the Hemera hotend with volcano, 50W heater, 8,000rpm hotend fan, fanciest fan shroud out there, and plenty of sweat and tears.
Initial test cube is great so now it’s time to print bigger. I’ll dial in a PLA profile based off my initial one and then share that here. I plan on making one for 1.0, 0.8, and 0.6mm nozzles since of you have volcano you might as well print those fat layers.
