Bondtech LGX first hand!

With trying to keep myself as neutral as possible all I can say is this is heavier (con) than expected but it also feels incredibly durable and well built (pro).

As a complete hotend it comes in at 270g but in a palm size form factor which is insanity. All together it’s smaller than a Hemera while having a better gearing setup and hopefully far more reliable and consistent stepping. My biggest issue with the hemera is that the gearing (e-steps) varies greatly unit to unit. Bondtech is well known for having a reliable gearing that it’s usually within 1-2% of the suggested e-steps.

So far I only have positives on this unit which include its build, customizability, design, and features.

Red knob adjust tension in 5 physical steps that you can feel and repeat. Heatsink can be mounted to any side. Heatbreak is locked and won’t rotate and is Tiiiiiny!!! Copperhead block is rated to 450C as its copper and the heatbreak is bimetallic for added thermal greatness. It has numerous mounting options which should make this a dream to design mounts for.

I can’t think of many negatives besides the weight as I was hoping for something more in the 240g area but I really won’t complain as the form factor will make the overall experience better.

One area we may see a negative is suggestions that it’s a hemera clone. Hemera is a clone of the original MK8 hotend from 6 years ago as pictured below and the LGX is much more like the MK8 in overall design than the hemera.

Overall I find this to be an interesting hotend that can fill the void of extremely compact extruder/hotend combos but with the added versatility it brings I think we may see even more adaptation over the hemera.

Now on to testing. If you have questions head over to the discord and I’ll share additional pics for everyone.
