Artemis in the… shower?

Artemis is famous for being more than defensive of her virtue and grace. Many are the stories of men falling victim to her anger after seeing her in the nude.

But I bet it was worth all the years one would have lived to catch a glimpse of her taking a bath… She was described as only eclipsed in awestricken beauty by her sister Athena.

Oddly… she wasn’t a contestant for the fairest of all goddesses in the episodes of the golden apple of Eris - the calamity that would result in the destruction of Troy.

Reason could be she is completely without vanity. She cares not for her looks.

Artemis is also bound to the Ceryneian Hind - a magical creature that seemingly was a female deer with golden antlers - now… for the most part (but not always) antlers are mainly a part of the male genus of deers. The idea that this hind was wearing antlers is possibly a way to describe Artemis herself. A wild creature that is just as capable as any man.

One of her half brother Heracles’ tasks was to capture this hind… not kill it, but capture it. She wasn’t too happy about it and was about to punish him, before her twin Apollo came to hold her hand. As Heracles was tasked to do so, and also… success would spite their fathers wife Hera… Artemis was persuaded to allow Heracles to capture the hind, but had him swear not to harm the creature as it was her pet and her friend.

Heracles swore and as soon as he had presented the deer to Eurystheus, he let it go and it ran back to its home.

Hehehe, I remember Artemis from Disney’s Hercules Series. There was an episode of Phil taking Herc to a forest to hunt some Boars. But Artemis captures him and she can tell he is a good kid. I would actually have loved it, if she had actually been his sister in the show… but… it was a rather tall order to sanitize that show so it was viewable for kids…
