YOUNG ROYALS 1x1 FULL REACTION

YOUNG ROYALS 1x1 FULL REACTION

Comments

Hey! I became a Patreon when I saw that you were reacting to Young Royals! I so hope you enjoy the other episodes, so you'll continue. It's a REALLY GOOD series!

Leigh Stigler

A couple random facts for context... Yes, Erik is Wilhelm's older brother and Crown Prince. Erik and Wilhelm seem to have a pretty close relationship; much closer than Wilhelm has with his parents. Wilhelm's strained relationship with his mother is illustrated when he purposely sits away from her in the beginning of the episode when he is about to give his speech and the fixers make him switch places with Erik. His mother is the Queen and his father is Duke. The Queen is played by the same actress that played Shmi in the Star Wars prequels. Alcohol is pretty tightly controlled in Sweden. The drinking age is 18, but buying alcohol apart from bars and restaurants is limited to state liquor stores. August is calling Simon "sosse" which is a derogatory term for Social Democrat, which is the left-center workers party in Sweden. So it would be like a rich elite in this country calling someone a "socialist" in a derogatory way. Felice's roommate, Madison, is American from New York, and is embarrassed by her really poor Swedish (in her opinion) so she speaks English all the time. This is mentioned in future episodes, I think. I think those are all the things that tripped me up when I first watched this and I needed to google. I hope that helps!

I'll start by saying that I really love your reactions. Your Heartstopper reactions were really engaging and insightful and made me very happy. This show is far deeper and more sensitive than it might first appear. It is absolutely not Heartstopper. It won't wrap you up in a blanket of warmth and positivity. But it will draw you in and make you really care about (or despise) the characters, only to flip things upside down. The story, the nuanced characters, the depth of character development, the cinematography, the writing, and especially acting performances are absolutely top notch. The characters are very very real in that they are not just good or bad; black and white. Also, they are really good about casting age appropriate actors, showing different sizes and colors of people, not covering up acne, etc. I do really hope you continue with it and love it as much as I do, but of course you're welcome to your opinion and to stop watching if you don't like it. But I really hope you do like it. ๐Ÿคž (I signed up for your Patreon specifically for this series.) One thing to note is that this is a complete series. It is a story in 3 acts (3 seasons). Think of it more like a play than a traditional show. The seasons are short and don't play out in a traditional arc. I would say that you need to watch through the end of episode 4 before you make up your mind, which it sounds like you will. I'm really looking forward to hearing more of your reactions. Okay, that was a bit rambling, sorry. Last thing: Edvin Riding's performance as Wilhelm is absolutely haunting to me. The way he portrays anxiety is extraordinary. He was 17 when they filmed this season. Thanks for listening!

Edit for those reading this late: My worries were unfounded. He did give the show a fair chance and he likes it. If you end up not liking this show, of course you're right to stop watching it. But, by mentioning that possibility right at the start, you make me wonder if you're going in expecting not to like it. The thing is, if I'm right about that, that kind of expectation can contribute towards it coming true. But maybe I'm wrong, I hope I am, and you are actually keeping an open mind while watching the first few episodes, before making a decision. Other than that, good reaction. You caught on to everything I'd want people to catch and made pertinent comments about all the plot elements.
