Exclusive preview: PhantomAmp · rootless audio DSP effects

PhantomAmp is a proof-of-concept app for audio effects on Android. It's more like Viper/JamesDSP than other rootless equalizer apps because it processes audio with a custom DSP engine that supports effects such as custom FIR convolver filters (not currently working), parametric equalizer, and IIR/FIR equalizer, without root or system mods. It can theoretically be extended to support any effect, rather than being limited to a few basic effects provided by Android.

PhantomAmp also supports applying audio-coupled haptics/vibration effects (HapticGenerator) and processing audio even for apps that don't opt in to supporting equalizers. Most players other than Spotify should, in theory, be compatible if not for the bugs.

Expect this to be very buggy. It's a proof of concept, but I don't have plans to finish it at the moment because of just how tricky it would be to fix these issues, not to mention the potential device and ROM compatibility issues. I'm not sure if it's even possible to fix all the issues. It may or may not work at all for you, depending on your device, ROM, Android version, music player apps, audio output devices, and other factors. It's very tricky to make all this work without root.

Nevertheless, I'm releasing it in hopes that someone finds the idea useful. If anyone is interested in finishing it and I decide that I won't work on it again, I'll consider releasing the source code as-is.
