Morning!
Since my last update… PREPARE FOR MY NOVEL..
The event went well with the toy company but I went to VIDCON, and it was a weird experience. Unlike conventions that most of us know. The makeup of the event was either
- Agents wooing influencers
- Influencers
- Wannabe Influencers
- Companies Wooing influencers.
Like the conventions I know have Dealers room, cosplay contests, etc but it doesn’t seem like money transactions were that important. If you wanted an influencers ticket which allowed you to go into all the companies lounges it was like insane… it was really a paywall experience.
Also NO Cosplay... Which was weird for me. Walking around dressed as a deer in these company lounges haha. At one point I’m sitting there eating free food in the lounges… (which was the best part :D)
And a group of people sit beside me and are like “SO ARE YOU A CONTENT CREATOR?”
I’m like “Uhhhh… I’m a cosplayer and I make things”. This wasn’t the first time someone asked me.. but I didn’t consider myself a content creator, and most people wouldn’t even acknowledge you unless they heard your numbers … which is dumb in my mind. That’s like saying your work isn’t as good unless a lot of people follow you, which is the vibe of this show.
As someone who does spend time on tiktok, the accounts I value and think are the best don’t have many followers. In cosplay terms, saying that the high the number the better the cosplayer, which I feel is total bullshit. But that was the vibe of that show.
With all that in mind I am grateful the company gave me the opportunity to come out, while it was stressful to get it all done in the short time frame the extra money will help through the strike, which as of right now, I’m out of work Cause of the dang strike. Rumors are it will last till sept (best case) or dec …
Now with that in mind, you might be like.. SHE CAN MAKE ALL THE CONTENT, or least I thought that too. Also getting to go to the gym would have been nice lol But this leads to another part.
The house! Hah which is still being worked on… The bank has informed me that the contractors have taken too long and that they will no longer offer loan extensions. To be fair it has been two years and the contractors have dragged their feet and now that there is this looming deadline, suddenly they “say” that things have to get moving…
I’m like smacking my forehead being like.. Ok the bit of time throughout the past two years between shows I have had off you were MIA… also it wouldn’t have been a huge issue is the sub contractors (and GC) weren’t totally incompetent..
Things are falling through the cracks, more so with this new rush. For instance, They wanted to spray foam the walls, and I realized that NO internet had been run through the house, so I spend a few days running the line (over 1000 ft) throughout the house to various spots I thought I would need a hard line, because reception is TERRIBLE.
After it had been Spray foam, I had asked the subcontractors what the R value was and they said 10.
Which the standard in GA is supposed to be 30... So then spend all last week working a full 10-12 hour days at work, and then spending the nights and weekends (about 14-16 hours on the weekend) in a house with NO AC in 96F weather trying to install the insulation. Made good headway before the drywallers were supposed to come.
I woke up early on monday and drove an hour to the house to wait for them to direct them to the rooms they could start with while I worked on other rooms… wasted 5 hours of my time waiting. NO SHOW. The GC had also been told them plan of what rooms should be done as the framers and / electrician were supposed to come cause there was framing they wasn’t even tied in (was loose) and plugs I wanted installed…
but then the next day I show up at 9:30 to find the drywallers there and started in the one place I didn’t want… and they were over halfway down. Had to them to stop… pay them out of pocket to pull down the middle of the drywall that was done so I can least hand shove insulation down.. which takes like 5x longer >.<
Since last week I have probably spent 40+ hours installing insulation. I’m going back today, tomorrow and all weekend to finish. Basically want to make sure I’m somewhat comfortable inside the house haha.
Basically I take all the jobs I can to help pay for this house (and save for the loan) and the constant miscommunication and poor work by the GC and his team where time and/or money is spent to fix it. Time that I could spend making costumes… I’m trying to think long term that when I can move in and have a proper work space I can more easily do videos, and live streams with you.
I can’t fire the GC cause its tied to the type of loan… and We did have a meeting yesterday about the work that still needs to be done before the drywallers come up. My fingers are crossed now that work is done, to be there more frequently to make sure things aren’t done wrong the first time (and I pay for it) and I have to fix it or pay someone else to fix it..
While the loan deadline is up in sept, all the house has to be in, is liveable. I will still be going there to do tons of the more cosmetic stuff. But least I can spend the night at that point if needed.
SDCC
I’m supposed to be at SDCC this year to help some friends out at their artist table. SO I won’t be cosplaying, but if during the slow times if you wanna swing by and say Hello or tell me where the cool figure are.. I would love that! If you can just be aware of my time at the table and that I’m working for them… cause I know I’ll keep talking to you if given the chance haha
LA MOLE
I don’t believe it till the tickets are booked, but I AM still scheduled to appear at La mole in the fall. I am disappointed because I was supposed to go to London to a convention but they went MIA on me. So I’m always nervous to mention conventions to you guys. I will keep you updated on la Mole.
DRAGONCON
I will be there!! I dunno if I will have anything new… but I hope to just get to hang in the lobby more than I have in the past years..
SO it not much... but here are two recent pics... me at VIDCON and me doing insulation.
This is one of the easier rooms I was doing, the upstairs it’s a lot of weird sizing, YES I know I should be wear a Tyvek suit. Which I did for the first 3 days but I was over heating so much that I rather just be itchy >.<. As always sorry I don’t have more bubbly updates, just trying to push forward and not get so stressed it just cases me to bury my head... which is classic me :P
Ok I’m heading back to the house (which is an hour away) probably won’t be able to post till next week. I’ll make sure to update you guys first on SDCC as well. Least I’ll have some fun content to post if I make it out.
