🥲🥰

@will don't speak for everyone 😂

Life isn’t gumdrops and rainbows, it’s hard with tough choices.

Will

You’re right, Sean, there are multiple ways to read this scene. And I’m sorry to hear of your broken relationship with your father. Still, johnny’s father is dying, and he’s walking away from him. That is harsh, and it is a defeat because neither managed to mend the relationship, because they clearly don’t know how. I guess I’m just a sucker for happy endings, and this was really bitter-sweet to me.

Crazy. Intense. Real. Loved this story line. Also why do I feel like this isn’t the last we will be seeing of Jared?

Actually @amedeo there is nothing saying that Johnny still hates his dad. I see it as he is chosing to heal himself as he can and that focusing on his life and chosen family is that. There are multiple ways to read what's happening here. Neither of is wrong in the read. Dealing with this personally I can tell you I don't hate my father but it's not worth the effort and work on my part to repair a relationship that is broken when my parent won't make any change. His view of change is saying sorry so that we move forward but won't acknowledge anything he's done. Walking away as johnny is doing is not defeat it can very much be self repair and support.

Sean

Jonny forgave and forgot for far too long and that was why he was in the cycle of abuse and self-harm. Removing himself completely from his abuser was his only choice if he wanted to be healed. 💕

@sean, in a society so individualistic such as the one we are living in, it is absolutely unnecessary to show that “it is ok to do what’s best for the individual” because that will always be the first choice. Of course, this is a fictional comic strip, and the author is “directing” his characters as he pleases. How do you know that saying sorry on the deathbed does not repair the harm done? Maybe it was all that it took to move forward. Well, in this case clearly it wasn’t because Johnny abandoned his father. And my comment is not about making the dad feel better, he is an abuser. The purpose of my comment is to show that you don’t need to hate to move on. Because Johnny clearly still hates his dad, and will keep resenting him because he preferred a negative feeling over the possibility to forgive and forget.

@Amedeo your comments are valid but it's also good to show that it is ok to do what's best for the individual. Why must we always be the one to repair a parents fault and forgive them? Just because you say you're sorry as you're on your deathbed does not repair the harm they have done. It doesn't help the child heal. Your comment are only about making the dad feel better.

Sean

God this hit home for me. Amazing

Why the hate @Leo? Relax, this is just a comic strip.

Fuck that. And fuck his father. He deserves to rot in hell, for all I care. No need to “be the better person”. Jonny got his own closure, that’s all that matters. His father being on his deathbed doesn’t change anything.

Leo

Yes. But since this is fiction, I think it would have been a better lesson if Johnny would have overcome the toxicity by forgiving his father. It doesn’t mean that he would have had to pretend like nothing happened, but you can get closure without having to cut your father off from your life.

Sometimes it does. Not all of us are privileged enough to have the choice. Especially if that “family” abandoned and/ or abused you. He’s being a better person TO HIMSELF. He has a past of self-harm, and guess what; he’s cutting the toxicity out once and for all. Kudos to Johnny.

Legit tearing up right now. 🥺

I still think it is very mean from Johnny to abandon his father on his death bed. He should have been the better person. Having a chosen family doesn’t mean you must abandon your family of origin.

HE DIDN'T ACCENT HIS FATHER'S APOLOGIZE 🥳🥳🥳🥳 I'm so happy for Jonny 😭
