I think when it comes to platinum is that especially in season 1 it would have been cool if you had to physically touch metal to bend it. That's also a way of having them not be dummied by metal benders, if you can't get close or if there are too many you could lose!

Maybe this is a case of an unreliable narrator and Zaheer gaining flight was directly caused because he had zero attachments, maybe the loss of P'Li just gave him the jolt to realize he could...but otherwise it makes no sense.

Maybe suyin is the exception as shes just chillin in the metal castle

He lost all earthly connections and still cared about his anarchist beliefs and geopolitical ambitions. Imagine after this we got an episode where Korra wakes up on a mountain. And Zaheer is just fully checked out. Meditating high above the clouds. And we watch Korra suffer through the mountains and jungle and rivers to grt home. And as she is shoen to be miserable we periodically show Zaheer, peacefully floating above the clouds. And when Korra finally reunites we see her getting hugs and being happy. And then we end the episode on Zaheer. Silent and lonely above the clouds. No pain. But no joy either. It could have been a beautiful analogy for the struggles of life and perseverence in thrface of hopelessness rather than "letting go" of life. If you know what I mean.

Now, if this is a 3D humor bit about how no one really knows the Zaheer gang's names and even the people in the universe don't, that's also funny, but what can I say. I overanalyze.

You just sort of imagine that the Red Lotus members' names and abilities would have been discussed during some meeting. It would honestly be weirder if Tenzin hadn't prepared Korra by giving her that info.

Because you (rightfully) want to discuss things linearly, as or after they happen, most of the jokes and references are looking back on a series you watched at least somewhat recently. It’s still impressive, don’t get me wrong, but it’s definitely something most super fans were watching like ‘man I wish I had thought of this first’. But in Korra, you do things like pull out an obscure Suki line that MOST people, even dedicated rewatchers, wouldn’t have thought to call back to in that moment, which reeeaaally shows off how on another level you are about all this. (A follow up to my glowing praise: how would Lin not know Gazan and Ming Hua’s names?? They’re terrorists imprisoned for decades and I feel like they pretty clearly established that she was familiar with them)
