Overanalyzing Korra: The Reunion

Hopefully back to Tuesdays after this one.

Overanalyzing Korra: The Reunion

Comments

There were 3-4 'high-octane' but short scenes in this episode, between the car chase, train fight, mech battle, maybe something else I don't remember. All with practically zero buildup, unless most of the fights where the tension had time to build.

I'm glad I'm not the only one perpetually bothered by the nuances and logistics of random forest net traps. I haven't had a solid night's sleep since 6 year old me watched Return of the Jedi for the first time

SaltySeaCaptain 225

I'm surprised you didn't mention that the guy with Amon's voice looks just like Wan. Or is that just in my head?

Elleden

yeah, they should have done more to embiggen that part

Matt Brown

Hmm, Is he human?

Ozai’s flying Hippo-Cow

Season 4 is my favorite season of Korra, and I still completely forgot there was a train fight scene. It's honestly impressive that a train-fight scene can be forgettable.

cromulent

I think he realized that, he was just saying it was funny

A Flock of Plain Caiques

Yeah this episode is always really lame and low energy on rewatch. I dont know what it is either but it's like none of the scenes have stakes so you just check out .

Noooo dude noooo, please don't do a dedicated clips episode. Please, not even as a bit. Also, the "boomju" thing is gonna get you so many angry youtube comments. Overanalyzing algobait.

7:55 I think Verrick was actually jumping over Bolin’s ground wave kick move. That just makes more sense to me

EntityReport

I don’t remember the other four.. nice

5:30 The Lobster and Ocotopus freak him out but the Soup with Eyes in it is ok?

If you slow down the Episode you clearly see the "Net Trap" Spawning out of thin Air

I feel like this episode highlights several problems that have been present for the whole season but are coming to a head now >the mechs suck. They look terrible and are terrible for choreography >lava bending is way too op. Bolin needs to nerf himself to not kill anyone immediately. And even then, he could’ve easily taken out the mechs with it >the show wants to keep Varrick but realized he’s useless without Ju Li, so they made him smarter. I’m honestly fine with this; I think it’s reasonable for him to be smart but still be a goofball that makes stupid stuff sometimes; I think that’s a pretty common trope. I actually like Varrick in season 4 enough; he’s a different character from season 2, but imo you can chalk a lot of it up to development > kuvira doesn’t really have any notable people under her. She has Bataar jr, but that’s about it. Even Amon had the stick guy and it made sense for him to have busted chi blockers. Here, they’re just metal bending goons, something that’s been a thing since season 1 with the police > Mako and Asami are boring and struggle to bounce off Korra. Bolin does a lot of heavy lifting in their group dynamic that imo goes under appreciated > Korra is kinda boring without her hotheaded nature. Season 4 does have the interesting angle of her recovery, but when that’s less of a focus, Korra just becomes a little stale. She’s just competent now with a little hotheadedness, but that’s kinda boring Also, I really hate the new airbending uniform. Airbenders look way cooler with flowing outfits that complement their element. Skin tight outfits look terrible, especially on the kids, Bumi, and Tenzin

Wait, EMPs work on the suits? Does that mean they have computerized control systems? Another question is where the escapees came from, EK is the only ethnically diverse country in ATLA so how would they get “purged”?

Chibi

No good Jokes? Bumju is short for Bumi Jr. I thought they said that once last season? Clearly you haven't been to Thailand man. Grandmako's reaction to royalty is my favorite running gag in the show because it's so accurate to how the elderly revere royalty over there specifically. I DID remember the train fight, but only because it was in the season 4 trailer. As part of the show, it super forgettable like you said.

Jamel George

If they showed that, then sure. But all they showed was junior being convinced they both died in that explosion.

MunticusPunticusKunticus

I mean they found no bodies and possibly evidence of bolins earth bending

Justin Gregory

I have seen this show maybe 20-30 times, Less than ATLA but still one of my favorite shows. I did not remember that fucking train fight

Justin Gregory

I'm surprised you pointed out Varrick's eye twitching on the poster and not the fact that they shouldn't even have wanted posters out for them. They barely got out of sight of Zaofu when they were initially captured, and are currently presumed dead. There's no reason for them to be wanted men.

MunticusPunticusKunticus

11:25 "I don't remember the other four" killed me man

PortyMart

The best part of this episode for me is just seeing Bolin lava bend. Just makes me so happy

Random plush guy Brah

Can you unprivate the Enemy at the gates episode? I never watched that one, and I'd like to watch the new ones
