Damn, people keep bringing up this (reads notes) "Cabbage Man". I see this mentioned in comments all over the place, but I really don't get what the fixation is. Weird.

In regards to the Tenzin broke up with Lin for Pema, I believe it and I’ll say why: If we look at Jinora their oldest, she is 11 years old. Korra is 16 years old. So if we rewind that means that there is a 5 year gap between Aang’s death and Jenora. Tenzin says, “Pema didn’t steal me away. Lin and I had been growing apart, we both had, different goals.” Aang’s death really hurt Tenzin, not because it was his father, but because he is now THE LAST AIRBENDER. Before it was always him and his Dad. That would mess with anyone, that parental bond being shared through this skill that only you two share. Tenzin associates air bending with family. After Aang’s death I’d argue that Tenzin didn’t even want to air bend anymore. He felt like he lost apart of himself. He lost a connection to his element, and there was only one way to get it back. But, back to what he said, ‘Different goals.’ It’s never said what their goals are but we can assume that Tenzin’s was to restart the air nation, and Lin to become police chief. Tenzin wanted a wife to take several years off to have children, in Pema’s case at least 17, Lin didn’t want to have any children because it would interfere with her dreams of being chief. There’s a 5 year gap between Jinora and Korra, and we know Tenzin would start as soon as he got married, so they spent years growing apart because of this major problem in their relationship. I don’t think that he purposely broke up with Lin for Pema because Pema was a non bender, I just think he did it because after maybe 3 years of trying to convince Lin of having children, and she kept saying no, he began speaking to Pema. Now we don’t know how they met, but I’d assume that since Tenzin is on the council Pema might have been in the politics realm. Maybe a friend from work. She’s a very well spoken women, and seems very educated. Just a personal theory. But yes, I’d argue that he Pema being a non bender did add to the choice, but Lin not wanting to have children was 95% of it.
