Overanlyzing Korra: Rebirth

Please analyze Napoleon Dynamite! There are so many little details. Have you ever watched the food between cuts while they’re eating?

Dutch Letters

That Biceps callback, tho. Proud of you, OA!

Matthew Lang

Pink slipper is def on the test. Boys Write it down.

Redneck_Jesus

As a 22 year old still living his with one of his parents it is certainly normal

Joseph

Yes! Over analyzing Napoleon dynamite 🧨 plz !😂

Emilio

Tell that to Sozin

Jordan

I don't think it has anything to do with firebending. Waterbenders can also change the state of their element on a whim.

Shado

I think you start hinting at some pacing issues in this episode, and I agree that they actually hurt the season pretty badly. While the end result is still a billion times better than S1 and especially S2, I think they spend too much time doing setup stuff, which leaves the ramping action and climax of the season feeling pretty rushed. And some of the annoying character writing persists in S3, like Bolin being a walking joke, the spirits being annoying assholes that contribute nothing, Kai being mostly bland but taking up tons of screentime in order to develop a super-rushed “character arc”. Even the best character writing (Lin and Su’s conflict and reconciling) ends up feeling rushed, with Lin pulling a Zuko and “sweating out” her trauma overnight, but instead of it being a misdirection it’s actually supposed to be real. And even after all that, Lin and Su’s story doesn’t exactly relate much to the main plot and conflict of the season. It feels like the entirety of S3 is almost just acting as setup for S4, in a way. And upon rewatching both seasons, that actually makes me kinda like S4 MORE, which would have sounded sacrilegious to me back in the day.

Lava is just a combination of Heat(firebending) and Rocks (Earthbending). So it makes Sense for Bolin to have lavabending since one of his parents was a earthbender(his family is from Ba Sing Se) and his other parent was a firebender (Thats where marco got his firebending)

D G

And what about Sparky Sparky Boom Man. He did Bend With Only his mind

D G

11:45 Have you ever heard of the Worf Effect? It's when a Character is really strong but always loses fights to show how strong a bad guy is 100 Credits for the person who get the reference

D G

Blaming the Fire benders 70 Years after the war isnt something Special it happens in the Real World too. Germany is still blamed for WW2 and thats was 80 Years ago

D G

Overanalysing Napoleon Dynamite would be amazing. I want it so much I could cry

Ben Carroll

I joined your Patreon to post this comment specifically, Ming Wa, as far as I can tell is using water bending through her phantom limbs, my sister is a nurse and has consulted with amputees that she met who watched Korra and they said that it appears to be what they are referencing, so it hits more of a character bending with a disability rather than psychic bending( I do realize that phantom and psychic sound similar but they are different.) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phantom_limb

Conor Prochaska

I agree it coulda been explained better (like 90% of this show) but I don’t see it as that big of a stretch. Like even just a “surprised” line from like korra “how is she doing that!” And it coulda just been compared to tophs blindness or something

Kstanv

u need to do napoleon dynamite at some point gr8 though <3

nightmare-on-kelp-street

I guess, with the creation of Kyoshi island. But again, Sozin sort of did it too

Jordan

Before Legend of Korra, we saw both Kyoshi and Roku do it. Since only avatars have done it previously, it was never clearly stated which element lava bending counted as.

Shado

To be completely fair almost every time Aang enters the avatar state he creates a sphere of air and just holds it there with no movement. So I don’t even that’s a problem since that’s just expectation of the avatar state.

brett hammel

Couldn't bumi psychic bend earth in return to omashu and when he escaped capture on the solar exclipse? I might be wrong he had some head movement but still water arm lady doesnt bother me too much with that thought in my mind.

kieran brown

No sweat it was awesome hearing you say my name lol I've loved your content for years

CHIEF KON QUEE QUEE

Yeah I messed up, my bad. And I definitely messed it up next episode too. My apologies

complete cannon

CHIEF KON QUEE QUEE

Hell yea do over analyzing napoleon dynamite!!!

Jonotar the Tyranitar

holy shit crying at the Mako leaving bit

Jake

If you feel so inclined, I’d fix the “on the topic on whether the lion turtles giving bending it a retcon” in the youtube upload, but it’s not a big deal.

Fierce

I mean you're gonna have to make it just for us 4... Sorry Mr Science and Reason Lover...

Not sure if there’s any basis for this, but I like to think that lava bending can only be done by an earthbender with some connection to fire bending. The only people demonstrated to do it in the series (that aren’t the avatar) are Bolin and Ghazan. Bolin had both fire and earth ancestry, and we don’t know ghazan’s background, so maybe lava bending requires some mix of the two. Again, no proof, but I think it’d be cool if different ancestries blending could lead to new advances/changes in abilities. And maybe you could expand and say that sandbenders from the og series are descendants of earthbenders and a group of air nomads that settled in the desert centuries ago or something. Or maybe combustion benders have some connection to air nomads, which would explain why it’s a rare ability post-genocide and they have forehead markings. And then the combustion is just a spark of fire fueled by a huge rush of air (Idk, I’m not an explosion doctor)

Erin

I'm okay with Ming-Hua. I can suspend my disbelief that she's bending with her head and hips, but more importantly she's a villain. It's one thing for the heroes to have inexplicable powers, but villains just need to be a cool challenge

Eating Pancakes Right Now

Part of me is willing to turn my brain off when it comes to the “Harmonic Convergence giving people airbending” thing due to how fuckin wacky everything else was from season 2, so it wouldn’t be too far off for it to do something like that. With that said, I’d have liked for it to tie to an individual’s spirituality than just “idk pick a handful of nonbenders from this specific land mass” As for lavabending, it’s cool. I think it should have some restrictions given it’s Better Firebending—maybe they could’ve made it have more of a physical restraint for one to bend it somehow On Ming-Hua’s amputated waterbending, I didn’t really think much about it until you pointed it out for some reason? I can see the criticism for it now, though. Maybe if they animated her having more forceful movements from her shoulders or something on top of dialogue like “I haven’t moved like that in years—my body is killing me,” it would’ve worked out better. All in all, it’s TLOK: mostly cool ideas, but they could’ve used better execution

Ayo when that lady says that her kid is 22 in the basement I thought that was crazy old as a kid but now I'm 23 and still live at home 😭

Ian Hedley

Overanalyzing napoleon dynamite would feed families

Vance Matthews

Overanalyzing napoleon dynamite, yes yes yes!!

Data Analysis Cosby

Fourth!!!

Data Analysis Cosby

Sort of. The only thing really close to it is done by a fire bender

Jordan

Third

Dr. Nau 1030

It is in the last air bender if that helps

Silentsspite

This basically, even a throw away line like "Spirits my hips hurt. Its been a decade since I had these arms, and my hips do not like it." or something like that.

Brisken

second

Matt Brown

If they took the time to explain how she does it, I don't think it would've been much of a problem. Like, how does a congenital amputee learn how to bend this way? Sure, it's cool. But without a proper explanation, Ming Hua's bending comes off like a square peg trying to fit in to the Magic system's round hole.

MunticusPunticusKunticus

Asami ignoring her company to support Korra just seems to be a thing. Later, after Korra gets hurt, she tries to go live with her in the South Pole.

Vilmu

I would fucking love overanalyzing Napoleon dynamite.

Aidan Fairfull

I don’t know, I normally agree with the takes you make about the magic system but I actually like the armless water bending. It felt like a cool addition seeing a limbless bender, someone who was faced with life changing problem and still improved. Almost like losing one of your 5 senses

Kstanv

Still not sure how I feel about lava bending

Jordan

Let's goo!!!
