TIME LAPSE - Procreate portrait painting (without an outline sketch) 🥝✨

Hi everyone!
Here’s the time lapse video of my yesterday’s painting. You can check the shorter version (30s) or longer (5min+).
It was something new for me because I never paint anything without the first, even very quick, outline sketch! ✍🏼 It had very long awkward looking stage but I didn’t mind 🙃 I even liked it 😊
I must admit it was very pleasant to create something this way. I think you can learn a lot with such exercises 🧡
BRUSHES:
- Gouache - for most of the time I painted jus with this one brush in different sizes
- Eaglehawk - I used it for some smaller elements but actually gouache worked pretty similar
- Fine Liner - for lashes and some hair
- Flicks & Bonobo chalk - to make skin less regular and more realistic
- Salamanca (smudge) - for the splashy look at the end
PROCESS:
- I tried to paint as it was a traditional painting so I didn’t use many layers or even modes (like overlay or anything).
- I picked each color separately from the color wheel, by watching the colors at the reference.
- I painted a smooth painting first (photo study) and made it more messy at the end. I like this effect but I like to have control over the splashing. That’s why I keep it for the final stage :)
- I used the Liquify (push) tool a lot to correct my mistakes of the proportions
- I had a huge problem with the lips and I think it might be visible but I like the effect anyway :)
Do you paint with or without sketching? 🤔
Hugs 🤗 Gaby
