Content Warnings update

Hi folks,

So, as you've likely noticed, we've started adding content warnings to episodes, starting with The Coming Storm.

I just wanted to say a quick thank you to everyone who gave us feedback either in the comments, or direct messages. We have a list of things to look out for now, so you've given us a really solid foundation from which to build. We really appreciate your involvement and that you're helping us to be better.

However I want to remind people that we're still new at this and that, since Content Warnings deal with deeply personal and often individual things, we will probably miss stuff in the future. So if you don't see anything which may affect you in the content warnings that doesn't absolutely, definitely, definitely won't be in the episode. I don't want to immediately undermine the system, and we've set up as many safeguards as we can (content warnings are being added by people at the writing, editing, mastering and upload stages to try and make sure absolutely nothing is missed) but things may slip through the cracks. The last thing we want to do is give people a sense of security, only to have them horribly surprised by traumatic subject matter because we screwed up.

On that note, if you hear anything in an episode which hasn't been tagged with a warning which you know will affect people let us know, we can add stuff retrospectively to at least protect new listeners. Although not everything can necessarily be added we will try and make sure as much is covered as possible.

As an example we can't call out which characters may be injured/traumatised/killed BUT we can call out the ways in which that occurs in order to lessen the potential negative impact on people.

That being said, we're always happy to learn, so if you have any feedback about how we can improve please let us know.

We're going to include content warnings at the end of the show notes, so those people who want them can have a look (these notes should be included regardless of how you listen to the podcast). Having them at the end puts them beneath the cut, so they're easily accessible, but unlikely to be seen accidentally.

This conscientiousness is one of the reasons I love the folks at RQ so much, and feel safe recommending your content to many of my friends. Thanks, and you rock <3

Assuming you intend to include aural warnings before the show plays an episode "This show may contain...". There's a danger somebody following the show closely may get too much information out of the trigger warnings, like a vague spoiler meaning more to some people than others. I suggest you put in 'pips' (unusual sounds used to send meta information on radio stations) before the trigger warnings. These pips are very brief, one or two seconds but they will allow somebody to opt out by pressing forward on their mp3 player. Also since this is a horror show you could use some peculiar sounding pips to enhance the atmosphere, like the intro/outro music sequence.
