Comments

This has got to be one of my all time favourite episodes. Overlaps with my personal cultural heritage (grandfather who experienced the opium war), and a particular era of history I'm most interested in.

Lilian Darmono

Gertrude was very, very methodical. She wouldn't pull statements willy-nilly. Something about this is connected to the larger picture. Is this a new or old Player, and is it with the Unknowing? Or like Michael, working on its own goals and Gertrude was hoping to align with it. War and Knowledge, two very powerful forces in the modern world ...

Wren Griffin-Harrigan

The more I think about it, the more I wonder if this isn't an example of the war entity/power gaining a foothold on the world. Something about this statement reminds me of episode 7 (The Piper). If I'm remembering correctly, and it's been a while since I listened to episode 7, both involve a character being chased in some way. Maybe this is meant to give the Archivist a sense of what could happen if the Unknowing isn't stopped? (Note: there's a really good chance I'm blowing smoke here, but the most recent episode is haunting me more than most).

Mark Sutton

Exactly! That’s my thought - have there possibly been other lesser instances of the Unknowing? Or perhaps precursor events, like a before-shock so to speak?

Gilligan Mungus

Well that's one possible meaning of The Choir...

Linda Evans

But is this completely unrelated to the Unknowing? As the ship was sinking, the people were singing, yes? Obviously I need to listen again (a few gazillion more times) but that bit stuck out. What is the connection with large numbers of singing corpses/soon to be corpses?

Gilligan Mungus

For the first time, i'm legitimately jealous of the archivists abilities :D
