Resting quills
Added 2019-12-16 16:22:01 +0000 UTCHappy Monday folks!
After all the rushing around and high energy of the last couple of months, we're settling in for a quieter few weeks at Rusty Towers to enjoy the Xmas period. There's still plenty going on behind-the-scenes meetings-wise, but we want to take some time to reflect on how things have gone.
But after that, either on 30th December or 6th January (depending on how busy I am), I will bring you the State of the Towers address! I mentioned this briefly a few months ago, but for new folks here - I am aiming to give you a rundown of how this year has been for Rusty Quill, talk about some of the issues we've faced and what we're going to do to fix some of the problems. So stay tuned for that.
I'm pleased to stay that the wheels are in motion once again on The Magnus Archives - pre-production planning has started so that we'll be in a good position to deliver MAG161 come April.
But while we wait for that, we thought you might like to have a chance to stretch your imaginations a bit. It's probably safe to say that Season 4 of The Magnus Archives hasn't been the most... jolly of environments. So, how about injecting a bit of light and levity into the Archives?
From today until the 11th January, we're inviting you to submit something fluffy, a vignette, a slice-of-life scene from the earlier days of The Magnus Archives. We're looking for something to bring a smile to listeners' faces... oh, that's right - the winning entry will be recorded by the characters as a Patreon bonus (Knights & Nobles tiers) for release in February next year!
So, the all important details (also included as an attachment for easy reference):
- Competition runs 4pm 16th December 2019 - 8am 11th January 2020 (times GMT).
- One winner will be selected by me to be recorded by the cast involved.
- Competition is open to all Patrons at the Rusty Citizen tier or higher, but the winning entry will be released at the Rusty Knight & Noble tiers only. Should the winning entry come from a Rusty Citizen, special arrangement will be made for them to receive a copy of the recording.
- Entries should be submitted in SCRIPT format (see the show transcripts for a basic layout).
- Characters available: Jonathan, Martin, Elias, Tim, Rosie, Melanie, Daisy, Basira (We encourage you to use 1-3 characters max).
- Scenes should run no longer than 10 minutes.
- We're looking for light, fluffy, 'slice-of-life' scenes with low-to-no direct plot relevance or revelations, these should showcase day-to-day activities and interactions, 'water cooler conversations' or similar, though a conversation that takes place after a specific episode could also be fine.
- If you have a specific point in the series you imagine this taking place, please let us know.
- Scenes should take place at some point between MAG001 and MAG100.
- Submissions should be emailed to mail@rustyquill.com with the Subject line: Patreon Fluff Competition.
- Entries should be submitted as a .doc, .rtf or GoogleDocs file.
- Must be in English and the winning entry may undergo script editing before transmission.
- Whilst copyright in the winning entry remains vested with its respective writer(s), the writer(s) agree to freely licence the work and any adaptation thereof to Rusty Quill Ltd, who may use it as they see fit with appropriate credit given where due.
- In the unlikely event that we do not receive any entries that meet our standards, Rusty Quill reserves the right to decline to name & produce a winning entry.
- The judge's decision is final and, unfortunately, no communication with writers about non-winning entries can be entered into, unless otherwise agreed.
Any questions about this competition should be directed to mail@rustyquill.com or by PM to me on the Discord. I look forward to seeing what you come up with!

Oh, if I get any ideas, I’ll try to convert it to .rtf, cuz since I use WriterDuet for script writing, I’m used to exporting it as .pdf. But I think they have other options of document format. I’m so happy you guys opened another competition!
