SOBBINGGGG. TIMM!!!!!!

RatBandit

Me listening in 2024, watching the apocalypse finale at the end of 2019: 👁👄👁

Rurrie

ok the happy dance I did when he said "I love you" tho

Rurrie

That was a fantastic followup to S4's climax. And the 'I love you'... devastatingly beautiful and brilliant.

marie CD

hey i only just here and i want to say that the opening of this episode is the single cruelest thing anyone has ever done to me. i thought i was ready to be emotionally devastated but clearly i was not correct! i was not correct. thank you for this beautiful suffering <3

gojo fujoshi

The birthday recording had me almost in tears. I didn't realize how nice it would be to hear Tim's voice again. Or hear how happy and normal they all sound.

Eboni Daniels

Thanks for the shout-out, it made my day! Looking forward to another amazing/terrifying season!

Dr. Badvibes

This episode was beautiful and heartbreaking. Amazing how different the Archivist sound now compared to the birthday recording.

YamiKakyuu

Oh, and nice play on words in the title

Alex

I just wanted to drop in and thank y'all for providing solid apocalypse-themed fiction during the apocalypse -- I appreciate the content warnings and the encouragement to folks to be extra careful, but I am also very grateful that you've stuck to what was always your overarching plan for this thing you've created. For me I very much like having fictional stories that directly help process what's going on right now instead of hiding from it, though I know the, uh, increasing similarity between art and life as the seasons have gone on wasn't exactly planned (even to the point of "hey, we hit a totally different apocalypse before the climate apocalypse even had a chance to kick in" - which, hey, are y'all absolutely sure you're not prescient in some way? :D).

Alex

The Magnus Archives. The only podcast that can make fluff painful 😢

Debbie

this is such a good opener for the season, if anyone needs me I’ll be lying facedown on the ground preparing for my inevitable death. I cannot wait to see where this season goes!!

Noah James

Hello yes i am crying this was sooo good

Mikael

happy to report that everything about this episode successfully managed to break my heart :,)

ledgem

This is just such an amazing episode. Well done everyone!

Kitkat

Fuck

Regine Kjærran

I'm pausing this episode at 6:28 and pretending it was another fluff winner and nothing bad ever happened after that 🙃

Jessica Ma

why does jonny want me to cry so early in the season?

belated

did not realize you could comment here!!! anyway this made me ;') I'm so glad they decided to go forward with the season and not change anything due to the current state of the world

Stephanie Anne Sorter

I knew Jonny would break my heart at some point this season, but I didn't think he'd do it in the first minute of the first episode, with a happy flashback. So amazing.

E C Marlowe

Holy shit. Holy shit, Elias just fucking showing up for cake! And wine. Oh good lord that throwback to happier times drove the knife in so much deeper. 😰

Chekhov

Thanks for murdering me with the "I love you." (Also, the whole bit with Gertrude was brilliant. Wow do I hate Elias.)

Jordan L. Hawk

devastating! I love it!

Avinashi Bhandari

epic

danny

Elias singing happy birthday dear archivist 🔫🔫🔫

daethsticks

Absolutely amazing! Such a good opener for a season I'm sure is going to rip me to shreds. Looking forward to it!

aubree

In the last few months I have gotten a couple of my friends to listen to MagPod, but none of them have quite caught up so I’m just sitting here vibrating in my seat wanting to discuss the episode with them but I CANT. QUALITY CONTENT FROM ALL OF THE RQ TEAM. Y’all KNOW that I had to pause and take a breather when Jon said THAT PHRASE. Thank you for the WHOLESOME MEAL

Evangeline

Jon casually dropped in an "I love you" and just about murdered me. Oh god please don't take Martin from us.

brk5239

Track 1: ILOVEYOUILOVEYOUILOVEYOUILOV Track 2: Can You BELIEVE! CAN you BELIEVE!!!! The AUDACITY of the man???? Can you believe this bitch? ¿? ¿¡ "Cake?" You want CAKE???? *stabs Jonah Magnus in the eyes* SCREAMS

fromgloriousjupiter

i am in shambles

Espen

:)))))))))))))

Julia K

Another great episode! Thank you. Totally did not cry at the first 5 minutes...

Ginmik

ok well that hurt

Lauren Smithwick

Funny, I actually wondered how they were going to address food production. The possibility didn't occur to me that there needn't *be* any.

James Cunningham

can't believe how soothing AND distressing this podcast has become for me </3 ;o;

Mantha Grant

I'm not ready Oh dear...

Ginmik

Me too!! I've been 100% fine with the subtlety of their interactions, and never wanted an I Love You just for the sake of it, this fit so well into the statement though. It sounded so natural.

LainyJP

Listening to S1E1 right after this is SO PAINFUL

NewtSalad

real foolish of me to listen to this on my lunch break, huh?

A. Kamil

I'm so glad I joined patreon cause this episode alone made it all worth it!! That little "I love you" made my year

Uni

If you think I didn’t rewind and listen to that weary I love you at least four times—

Sarah C

I want to like this comment a million times

Grace

Life is a roller coaster at the end. I need a Martin Doll so I can hug him.

Grace

This was fantastic, thank you so much. I flapped and flailed so hard i tired myself out physically.

sAZAndorable

im dead now. thank you

Griffin Irradiatedsnakes

This is absolutely gorgeous, in every single facet. I'm stunned. Feeling very grateful to have heard this story, and to be around for its end. I hope everyone involved feels very proud.

Audrey Salo

This is so wonderful! I really liked (OK, it was very concerning, but such a great detail) Gertrude's commentary about Sasha :(

Kath

I have experienced so many emotions in the last 22 minutes. I am in awe.

Marissa Mendoza

Made the terrible decision to listen on my lunch break and I'm Emotional!! Great job guys!! 😢👍❤

Grace Holsten

Loved the episode! I had pretty high expectations after 160 & the trailer, but it absolutely delivered. For some reason I find the correspondences to the current situation really funny (like it's absurd that this is what we're dealing with now), or just a relief.

joyceful

I've been looking forward to this, and it was definitely worth the wait. The first tape was both nostalgic and subtly menacing, especially with what we know now. Then there's Jon, who's torturing himself by listening to the tapes, including one that basically acts as the "wise mentor telling the entire story" (I'm sure there's a trope name for that, but I can't think of it). Martin remains a strong character. He won't give up to hope, and maybe that will be enough to change things. Not that I'm expecting happily ever after, but maybe he can help someone survive and thrive. I look forward to seeing where it goes from here.

Mark Sutton

I legit cried with the first tape. Tim and Sasha - Sasha’s kayaking with Tim, right? Right?!? First episode of the season and my heart is already bleeding. Onward to a bloody pulp, I say! 😁

Gilligan Mungus

Feeling of the day is intense melancholy. Thank you. It is better than terror

Thegeekgene

!!!!! My heart is literally RACING!! I'm so worried and terrified and excited for this season!!

Malin

idk if there’s somewhere better to ask, but can you put a content warning for the talk about not eating? i know it’s in a very different context but that can be triggering to people with eating disorders

Noah

God I miss Tim 😭 this whole episode singlehandedly destroyed my entire life 😭😂

Grace Lang

I don't think I've ever been as happy as I was when listening to the beginning of this episode! AMAZING.

Crystal Hoover

hey do you guys at the rusty quill know that I would die for you? I just think you should know. that's it.

Oscar Penrose

This episode singlehandedly crushed me, it was OUTSTANDING! The parallels and irony throughout were just so much fun. What an absolute banger of a premiere (rq is the best)

Isabelle

this is gonna be a good season

Angel

DO YOU THINK I DIDNT GO ABSOLUTELY BATSHIT AT THAT I LOVE YOU HOLY... i’m. it’s so. ugh.

Angel

An excellent beginning to the new season!

Briar

Wifbksbdjshdisgrhs 💕💕💕💕

Jess V

I’m losing my M I N D BLESS ALL OF YOU THAT WORKED ON THIS AND GAVE US THIS!!! That recording at the start brought me to the brink of tears. Jeeeeeezzzz

AlexandraThePosh

tears in my eyes not even one full minute into the episode and then more tears at the end.....absolutely lovely job you guys!!!!!

Egg

oh admiral we're really in it now...

Lasgalendil

Hooo boy, we're in it now lads

Roo Jones

I imagine The Archivist feels like a lot of us now. Thank you for deciding to release this without change or postponement. As dark as this season may get, I think many of us would prefer to listen to this, because we know eventually the remaining are going stand up and fight back. That said...this episode was just.... I had to put my tea down at times I was so emotional.

Heather MacKenzie

WOWZERS THIS HIT DIFFERENT. Every single second had me going on a face journey, from smiling until my cheeks hurt, to hiding my face and yelling into my pillows. Astonishing job, RQ team, I'm so excited for the rest of the season!! I'm going to go quell my heart aching with some tea. Hopefully real tea.

Celadonleaf

Y'all just took me out back and shot me I'm so excited for this season hoooooly

Emma Schindler

I'm speachless. What a fantastic way to start the season.

Saphron

Suuuuuch a good episode!! So worth the wait! The decision to go on with this despite how the world is going is greatly appreciated. Horror may be an escape, historically speaking it has always been a reflection of the times and often gains popularity during times of crisis. I could discuss the psychology of horror all day....but won't haha, just that it is appreciated.

LainyJP

Thank you thank you thank you to everyone at Rusty Quill who make this wonderful wonderful show

elizabeth p.

There's just something so especially grand and epic about this episode and how it marks the (emotional) length of this journey so far. It was such a badass season opener, loved it. ^_^ Thank you for all your amazing hard work Rusty Quill!!

Rudy Urroz

Oh BOY that was bittersweet and wonderful.

Iz McAnder

Amazing job once again, I'm so excited for what's to come!

Wayward Wren

I completely agree with your comment. I also think that TMA has always, always been a hopeful horror story, and it will continue to be so throughout its last season, apocalypse be damned - and I think that's something a lot of us could use right now.

Iz McAnder

Jonny. JONNY. J O N N Y . 😭

Rowan MacBean

On the upside, we're about to get some SOLID advice on how to react should a million eyes open up in the sky!

Iz McAnder

Perfect mix of uplifting and fear!

Rebecca Dupont

I'm a whole mess of emotions right now, it's perfect!

Ania Trzoch

The thing about the state of our current world is that there are patterns of pain in our history reflecting so many similar events in the past like this. People have always been pushed into isolation and overcome by fear, both for themselves, their loved ones, and their world. I appreciate you providing an outlet for these feelings that feels genuine. The tragedy of it is real and resonates so deeply with me and no doubt many, many others. But to know that someone is writing this with love and care and hope - even if that hope doesn't necessarily turn into what we really wish it would - means the world. This is one of the only podcasts I could ever actually sit through, as focusing is very, very hard for me. I haven't been this excited for something in a long time, and during this self-isolation I've really needed something like this to channel my energy. You're doing a fantastic job, and everyone's performances are stellar as always!

Jack Abele

that was the sound of a thousand headcanons and fanfics coming to fruition

ieatahottchip

god that first scene was so incredibly unsettling!! on another note, I really appreciate your decision not to change the podcast despite the circumstances. in an odd way, it feels a lot more normal, and just speaking for myself but that's really needed right now.

catboy

I admit I was super startled when after 4 seasons this alleged audiodrama turned out to be a documentary :o but I 100% support your decision not to let the unfortunate state of world events alter the creative vision of the final season. I think it would have been a disservice to the fans and to all the effort you all have put into creating this amazing work. Thanks for giving us this to buoy us through hard times, or, for folks who need to hold off on listening, to give us something to look forward to once things have improved.

Coldtoes

This is so fantastic! Thanks so much, Rusty! I've been waiting for a while, and this exceeded my expectations!

Cora Larson

i was fine. i was FINE. even with the recording at the start my heart was only mostly broken???? and then i got to 19:38 and now it hurts too much to breathe. thank you so much for this incredible episode!! xx

kate shipley

Excuse me while I SCREAM. What a rollercoaster of feels. This is so good, y'all, a perfect premiere. Absolutely brilliant work as always. I can't wait to see what the end of the world has in store for us next.

romi רוֹמִי

Okay, that was so worth it. I love the silence before the storm.

Mattanja Koenz

Wow! Thank you all so much, I can just tell we’re in for such a ride.

Mary A.

Incredible as always - you’re all amazing! Thank you

Disaster

Ahhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!! Thank you so much for all your hard work, Rusty crew!!!!

jadefyre

I literally ripped my headphones out of my pc. I am so hyped!
